“Great place to Stay”

The Brekkie was locally sourced and very tasty.
Our Room was very clean and tidy - the bed was very comfortable.
The property was originally the old town gaol and as such has a quirky look and feel which would suit anyone who is keen to avoid a homogenised environment whilst on their break. The Owner, Tim, is a great guy who’s happy to help with suggestions on where to go for a drink/food in the town and places to visit.
My Wife and I will definitely book with The Old Lock-Up again as Wirksworth is a handy base for the area.

Stayed in the hayloft room. Very friendly. Tim was approachable and happy to help. Lovely stay and very yummy breakfast. Oozing character as this was previously the village lock up. Nice to be able to book a time for breakfast with plenty of choice. Fruit and chocolate biscuits in the room. Very comfortable bed

We booked this stay a year in advance to chill out for a couple of days after our wedding the day before. We wanted somewhere different & quaint and the old lock up is certainly that. The building is steeped in history and attempts to hold onto this which is very endearing. Tim the proprietor goes to great lengths to make you welcome and does not scrimp on anything. Fresh flowers in the room with some expensive biscuits. Lovely clean lush quilts and towels and the breakfast freshly cooked at your chosen time with obviously the best ingredients to hand. Tim is new to the business and works his socks off to make your stay a pleasant one but it's obvious he wants to do more as he encourages feedback for improvements but he is nearly there in our view anyway. The town is also a lovely quaint place for an overall relaxing break.

my hubby took me here for my birthday.
The place is interesting and full of historical memorabilia regarding the building original use as a police station in the 17th century.
some of the rooms have original cells as bathrooms and the ceilings are vaulted in brick and stone!

I stayed in the solicitor's room with my hubby for 3 nights. the bed is very comfy. We arrived to chocolates on the bed, a bowl of fruit and fresh cut flowers.
My husband arranged for champers to meet us on arrival in the room and two flutes were provided. The champers was very quaffable! (chosen for us by the owner of the B&B - TIM.

Tim is lovely and friendly and all you need to do if something is preferred/ required is ask- he is so approachable. We had read that some other reviewers did not rate this place as Tim starred at them during breakie and or did not have herbal tea.

I did not experience the starring on any of the three days i ate in the breakfast room and by the way the full english or salmon and scrambled egg bagel is tasty as! Tim is friendly and a perfect host. if you stay there; i am pretty sure you would enjoy it- i would recommend it to friends.

If you enjoy an intimate B&B with personal touches- here's the place- local to great Peak district walks. We did the circular walk commencing in Wirksworth. We borrowed a pub and walks book from Tim.

Room Tip: We stayed in the solicitors room. if walking-reccommended as it has a bath in the ensuite, although...

Stayed here for 5 nights in Aug, having stayed here last year.
The accomodation in the coach house was ideal-2 bedrooms for myself and granddaughter. Rooms not particularly large but extremely comfortable and clean.
Tastefully furnished. Does overlook the cemetry. Teamaking facilities, fresh fruit and biscuits provided. Excellent breakfast(ordered previous evening )large choice.
Limited parking, but I always managed. 4 min walk to village-2 pubs and 2 restaurants.
Owner very welcoming-nothing too much trouble. Paid deposit by cheque when booking-paid balance by cheque on departure.
Best place I have found in area.

Room Tip: Main buiding might be better if you dont want to overlook the cemetry!

We arrived at The Old Lockup in some disarray as my wife had fallen badly the previous day in the Lake District and had nine stitches in her right knee and we were due at a wedding near Wirksworth on the following day. Tim was kindness itself and after coffee and cake helped us to out room - the Magistrates. This was fine with a slight quibble that in this room. the bathroom was a little small for tall people, but Tim obviously cant do anything about this.Other bathrooms may be more spacious . Tim has only recently taken over and stressed that he was anxious for constructive comments, so we suggested fluffy towels - hardly a major expense - and that he gets some help with the laundry, or he will wear himself to a shadow!
Breakfasts were good . Tim was very understanding that we could not stay the extra night that we had booked due to my wife needing to get back here to have her injury checked by our GP. He also contacted us and promptly sent on a bag which we had left in our confusion. He has a friendly and positive attitude to running a B and B and is aware that he is on a fairly steep learning curve. We will return if we are ever again in the area and we wish him every success.
