Firstly let me say that here you get what you pay for!
Not in a bad way but dont expect the RItz cause the Ritz is very expensive-clear enough?
The stay we had was really just what we wanted a warm and friendly pub with a good range of evening meals and a good pint-we also had a good bottle of wine too.
The people we dealt with were all very friendly and the whole stay was very relaxed.
I think my only fault would be the breakfast we had,had been kept warm and hence was alittle dried out-perhaps we were alittle late?
A surprise because the evening meal we had was very good and hit the spot!
Tideswell is a charming place and worth a visit-watch for the interesting rock and mineral shop!
And also watch out for the junk shop in the front room of one of the houses-honest!
No doubt we will be back to the area soon!

Room Tip: Upper rooms are probably better though not suited for older or non-mobile people. But remember what...

My 2 friends and I stayed here for one night in Sept 2012 whilst doing the White to Dark Peak walk. A very last minute booking but perfectly fitted the bill. Very reasonably priced and clean newly refurbished rooms with good pub food and local real ale. Tideswell is a lovely village in the White Peak and we had some of the best weather of the year (not difficult) to walk from Bakewell to here. There were lots of locals as well as visitors and the night we stayed there was a folk band playing. Very good breakfast to send us on our way.

Room Tip: Room 2 to be avoided if a light sleeper as the coolers for the bar were on and off all night. Also e...

We stayed at the Horse and Jockey overnight on Saturday 15th Sept. Would recommend this pub as it is clean and welcoming. The bedrooms are lovely and the breakfast was very satisfying. We were walking for the weekend and would definately stay here again.

At a wedding at Hardale Hall combined with a day of walking so stayed two nights at the Horse and Jockey in nearby Tideswell. Room 2 is at the back so quiet and with access not through the pub. Great for us as we were able to take our little dog without disturbing anyone. Not a big room but big wardrobe and plenty of drawers! Nice clean comfy bed - and I do like white linen. Good hot shower. The wonky cold tap on the basin needs attention and as there was no-one around on the housekeeping side of things, on the second night i had to pinch a loo roll from the toilet in the pub. Otherwise no complaints. The catering and pub seem to be run by different people than the B&B. Friday night in the Pub was lively - lots of locals- a good sign- despite being busy the service for our party of seven in the little dining area at the back of the bar was excellent. One of the strapping lads with us had no complaints about the size of his steak! We all ordered something different and were served quite quickly with no fuss -even the vegetarian was happy. Great breakfasts too. For pub accommodation with good food the Horse and Jockey was excellent value for money. Tideswell is a good sized village with a Co-op, ATM, butty shop, Post Office etc.. A good base for Peak District walking.

Had lunch here, OK it was a Monday and perhaps they had been wiped out over the weekend, but they didn't seem to have left to offer us. Maybe someone should tell them about those wonderful new inventions..........deep freezers!

I had a 'Grilled Steak Sandwich', promising prime steak in a ciabatta roll. What turned up was small pieces of steak (tasty) in a baguette. I ordered chips and they didn't materialise. My other half had a Horse & Jockey Burger, not bad.

Uncomfortable seating and no atmosphere ....and no, the radio played loud doesn't count.

Beers good. Coffee stewed.

We have just had lunch at this really great pub,the Horse and Jockey in Tideswell in the Derbyshire dales. First we were welcomed by Theresa who took our order for drinks and food.We sat in front of a lovely old Yorkshire range burning logs and enjoyed an excellent meal at a very sensible price.
We will certainly call again.
