We stayed here for two nights for a birthday celebration. Our room was spotlessly clean and very well appointed. The choice of breakfasts was wonderful. We stayed on a KGB break but were treated like full price guests. There were one or two problems when we arrived but the staff member concerned was new to the job and seemed to be doing much better the next day.

Very handy for Alton Towers and the Peak District. Wish we had known about the Ashbourne festival beforehand as the play that we would have liked to have seen was sold out by the time we arrived in town.

Room Tip: All rooms are well spaced out in seperate units at the rear of the inn and have parking nearby.

9 of us from 2 families booked in here for 2 nights at the beginning of July to go to the Olly Murs concert at Alton Towers because we couldn't find any where else to stay having left it very late. I read the reviews and was not looking forward to it. No need to worry! It was great. A little faded around the edges but the rooms were very clean and comfortable. No lumpy beds. The restaurant had good pub grub served up by very friendly staff. The breakfast was huge and varied and the staff served food very late on the night of the concert to accommodate our late return. It is 7 miles from the park and perfect for a place to lay your head after the horrors of queuing endlessly to get on to terrifying rides.

We stayed here with a groupon deal for two nights. We enjoyed our stay and the food more than made up for the accommodation. The choice and quality of the food for breakfast was very good, and the dinner menu was equally good. We found the staff to be very friendly, accommodating and helpful.
The accommodation could have been presented better however, although we did appreciate being able to park in front of our room. The rooms were tatty and in need of a makeover, the toilet roll holder was broken, there were cracked tiles and the toilet seat was loose. There wasn't a stand up shower, if you wanted to use the shower you had to hold it as there was no holder on the wall nor was there a shower curtain. My husband's bed was also broken which meant he had a very uncomfortable night's sleep. But worse was the damp patches in the room which unfortunately made my husband's asthma worse and he had to use his inhaler in the morning, which he rarely feels the need to use on a normal day.
However we did enjoy our stay but probably wouldn't go back!

The Rooms:

I stayed here with my young daughter for 3 nights and I have to say - it was ideal!

The location is perfect as we could drive to Alton Towers in approx 10 minutes.

The room was spacious enough and the beds were very comfortable.
Beds and towels changed daily.
Bathroom very clean with a nice wee selection of gels, soaps etc

The Food:

As far as the food, there was an abundance of cereals, fruits, croissants, toasts, spreads and juices at breakfast.

After our first day of the theme park at Alton Towers, the weather put stop to us going out for a bite to eat and chose instead to go for room service.
I was a little apprehensive given some of the reviews on here.
My daughter asked for a cheese toastie which can either be a hit or a miss as she is quite the connoisseur when it comes to such culinary endeavours.......
Pleased to say she heartily ate it and stated it was "scummy-dumptious!"
My apple and pork burger with stilton hit the spot.
All I would say is that the prices on the menu are a little steep - 10% less on the prices would be a little more acceptable.

Additional info:

My daughter loved the hens and baby chicks that frequented the grounds!

The staff were all very cordial and polite.
If you read some of the reviews that moan about the staff not smiling or being miserable - consider this.....
Their job is to serve a broad selection of "travellers"
Having to deal with moan a minute families and those who think they are of a higher echelon of society can be very tedious indeed.
Seriously, some of the other guests in the dining area here looked like the end of the world was happening - perhaps some music in the restaurant area to inject a bit off life into these folk would work wonders!!

The staff here made me and my daughter feel very welcome.
I hope to stay here again in the future when my daughter hits the 1.4 to tackle the bigger rides at Alton Towers.

We stayed here on a Groupon offer which was for two nights, with a 3 course meal the first night, however breakfast is not included in the price - more on this later.

As for the staff we found them indifferent, the rooms are in detached chalet style blocks and are well laid out and roomy for 2 - (they had bunk beds in our room too, so with children(4) this would be a push.) The double bed however has seen better days and was very lumpy really needs changing.

The 3 course meal was best described a mediocre, we and others behind us did not eat all or meal/choices. Also a number of the dishes attracted a supplement.

The breakfast would have been £10 each for both days so and additional £40.00, but we were so unimpressed by the catering the first night that we went into Ashbourne (10 minutes drive away) and found a lovely cafe ( 'The Flower Cafe', just by the car park near the tourist info centre) which did a good selection of breakfast options, ours was £5.95 and wonderful.
All in all not a bad place but not good either. guess you get what you pays for on the voucher

Room Tip: higher numbers are further away from the pub itself so further to walk, but perhaps less noisy if it...

Breakfast is not included in our deals, as when a deal is at a very reduced rate of two nights for £99 including a choice 3 course meal and yes there are supplements if you choice to have a steak. As to breakfast for

£10 per person you get help yourself to juices, cereal bread cakes crus scents , fresh fruit and berrys, yougarts ,tinned fruit dried fruit, followed by full English , kippers local oatcakes filled with mushrooms vegetarian english or crumpets with cheese and bacon and as much tea coffee and toast as you want.
We have checked the mattress in you room and it is less than a year old, and manufactured by hippnos and how ever hard we try you can't please everyone.
We do 100plus meals a day and the only people who complain are the odd groupon customer that doesn't read the deal offered and then objects to paying for extras, so please if you are buying a deal read what is included.

We stayed here with a Groupon voucher for £60 including a 3 course meal. The inn is very old and pretty, however the roms are separate - and new - very boxy chalets in the gardens - that said, each has its own parking space. Cabins were spotless, there is a great garden for kids, with chickens wandering about, nice views from the patio. The staff were great, really welcoming and friendly, including for our dogs. The food was really good - we didn't get palmed off with a bargain menu. It is a great location for Peak district. Don't be put off by the location near bust road - you can't hear it from the rooms.

Myself husband and dog Molly have just returned from a Groupon deal - Glass of bubbly on arrival and table d'hôtel dinner included
It was fantastic value!
We had a very nice spacious room - double bed and a single.
We had a good sized bathroom with plenty of hot water.
The 3 course dinner was excellent!
We paid £10 each for breakfast but it was worth it because there was so much choice.
We loved it and can't wait to go again on another great value deal!
