Our group of 4 ladies booked in for the banquet meal at a fixed price of £20 each on a Thursday evening. The restaurant was already busy. The food being served to diners looked and smelled superb. The enormous fish and chips in a light and crispy batter really caught my eye.
But back to the banquet. I hadn't really known what to expect from this. It truly was a banquet. 7 individual starters per person were laid out on a platter. All different types of food, mini prawn cocktails, Italian mushrooms, warm peaches...then the main platter arrived. Enormous! King prawns, lamb chops, a bowl of the best homemade chips I've had in years, followed by 4 mini puddings. We were fit to burst. Every dish was lovely and it was nice to try things I wouldn't usually have chosen. The chef (Peter I think) came out at regular intervals to check we were happy with the food. Which we were. The rear dining room is nicely decorated and he pub had a good atmosphere.
We will certainly return for another banquet near to Christmas. We might even let our men join us next time.
