nice atmosphere, great food, good location, even though its on a main busy road once you are in the pub you forget that the road is there, out back is the canal and also a great view. nice to stop and have a drink when on a long walk with the dogs

Again we chose to eat here as it is a Vintage Inn and definitely our favourite chain. It does show how restaurants within a chain can vary so much as this was leagues better than the others we have eaten at.

The restaurant is sat on the banks of a river and has some amazing views. If the weather was more suited, there are lovely places to sit outside and eat right by the river. The inside of the restaurant is well designed and is a comfortable place to eat.

We were greeted by the manager who was very pleasant and welcoming, placing us at a table near the window overlooking the river. We had a voucher for free drinks, and its wasn't the rubbish ones you usually get in places like Wetherspoons, but good quality ciders and Pimms were options to choose.

We chose again to have three courses and again the food was excellent. Cooked to perfection and with excellent tastes! I couldn't fault any of it. The staff were very polite and did an excellent job to make the meal even better.

I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and look forward to visiting again!

The Otter is our restaurant of choice pre flight from East Midlands and being part of The Vintage Inn chain we have always been very happy with The Otter. Until now .... Terrible service, poorly cooked food and the most unfriendly barman who ignored customers patiently waiting at the bar. The Otter has great potential and we have had lots of lovely meals but this was a massive let down. We hope things improve quickly.

We chose this having googled the local area and reviews (didnt know the area but were staying locally). The Otter was a delightful, ambient restaurant - quite a surprise when you get inside as its almost a bistro feel, service was prompt and good, and the menu was interesting but sadly most of the items were unavailable, including all 'beef' burgers and steaks and specials - this made it difficult to choose! Food was very tasty but portions were very small (including children's portions) and whilst we are not big eaters we were still a little hungry even after desert! Good points, the wine and ale choices were great...and the location next to a canal and boat mooring was very picturesque. We could put the let downs to bank holiday rush and selling out of everything maybe?. We downloaded a 20% voucher to our mobile which was great but we wouldn't visit again!

My daughter is away from home for the summer season flying with Thomas Cook out of East Midlands. I arranged a visit to see her for lunch as last year one of her flying friends had recommended 'The Otter' which is not too far from the airport.
I have a problem with what I eat and rang up the day before to ask for a 'special meal' that was not on the menu. I was told "no problem, just ask for Jenny when you arrive and it will be sorted". We arrived at 2.30pm and the restaurant was quite full and did as asked in asking for Jenny. I was expected and told no problem in cooking my meal which was delicious. I find it paricularly pleasing that a busy restaurant will go that extra mile to please a customer when many other would say they are too busy to do anything that is not on the menu. We went last year and were treated the same.
Very well done to all staff at 'The Otter' you are a credit to your profession.
