“Helpful staff, good carvery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2014

Recently had a carvery lunch at the Millstone for a family 70th birthday party - for ease, everybody had the carvery. I'm a little reticent about carveries generally, as whilst the meat is usually good, it is frequently the case that the vegetables suffer from being sat under a heat lamp. Whilst the vegetables were a little overcooked for my taste, there was a good selection, and they had not wilted too much under the heat lamp - and the presence of cauliflower cheese went down extremely well with my dad! The meat was fantastic though - extremely well cooked, and given that they had to carve meals for about 30 people in a short period of time, the staff did extremely well.

The staff were also helpful with regard to supplying plates and forks for the birthday cake brought by another family member.

Very nice location, with ample parking over the road.

“Rude staff and terrible customer service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

We took our two children here for Sunday lunch. We hadn't booked and were told they could accommodate us, but would need our table in an hour as they had a booking.

Fair enough we thought, and ordered the carvery and sat down to eat. The food it's self was standard pub fair, nothing special but ok never the less.

Then after we had been there about half an hour & just about finished our mains, I approached a member of staff for my son's pudding which we had already ordered. Rather than a customary of course I'll get it for you now, or similar, I was met with a frown and yes you better had, I need that table.

Upon her return with said dessert, she then proceeded to hover around our table for five minutes.
At this point we had been in there 40 minutes. A minute later and she was ushering in the pre booked party to the area we were sat in and apologising to them, not for the mix up caused by the staff, but for our tardiness!

Thankfully the incoming party were a really lovely group of people, who were happy to wait for my son to finish without rushing him. It turned out that they had actually booked their tables for an hour earlier but had been left hanging around the bar and, guess what, blamed for getting their times wrong by the same member of staff.

Needless to say we will not be returning.
