This was a last minute buy as we'd only just managed to get some time off work and because of the mid-week break offer along with the pictures and reviews we'd seen, it made us think we'd gotten ourselves a bargain for 4 nights.
Our room wasn't like the pictures. We had a modern bathroom with a very good shower but then a dated room which was small and the bed creaked really loudly every time you moved. It was quite dusty and the curtains weren't all attached to the hooks on the rail. We were also facing the main road (which is very busy and cars go past very quickly) and it is very loud during the night if you're not a great sleeper. You also have to cross this road to get to the car park which can be tricky. The room was cleaned everyday and coffee facilities refilled which was appreciated and the views from our room were amazing so no complaints there.
The service here was 50/50. In the morning we had the loveliest woman ever serving us, she was always smiling, catered to your every need and the food was fantastic (compliments to the chef), she then went on to clean up after everyone and then went to clean the bedrooms which was great as you don't normally expect that at a B&B. But during the afternoon the staff seemed a little less interested and there was no organisation during the Italian buffet on Thursday. People were just walking in wherever they felt and if you were polite enough to queue you weren't in any way considered. The poor chef also had no room behind the buffet table and was constantly having to push past you to take away empty plates and bring out more, the food however, was exceptional again. On normal nights there is a large variety of food and you get a very large portion which is cooked to perfection.
There really seems to be a lot effort put in the kitchens and the pub, but then as somewhere to stay it really does lack the quality you're paying for, which is a shame because we would love to come back, but not to stay.

Room Tip: Inquire about your room beforehand, if they say Howden room, we would suggest asking for another.

This pub/b&b was a shock to the system when we got there as we were expecting so much more, the photos are a bit misleading. The view is incredible but I'm afraid that's what you pay for. The room is so small, if we were paying £50 instead of £80 then I would have been happy.
The staff were absolutely wonderful, especially the amazing cleaning/breakfast/all jobs under the sun lady, Linda, wonderful and we will go back just to see her again, not to stay unfortunately.
The breakfast was spot on, the location is great but make sure you are in a car or on a bicycle and I have never stayed in a cleaner place.
Prices NEED to be lowered.

Finally made it to the Millstone Inn a week later than planned after the motorbike had broken down when we were on our way there the previous weekend and we had to go home in a breakdown truck. Lovely food - both evening meals and breakfast, great views from the inn, friendly staff and an excellent range of real ales and ciders. After a chilly and wet walk on Stanedge Edge it was lovely to relax on the sofas in the bar after a very tasty meal. Would definitely stay again.

There were 14 of us ( aged 3 to 93 ) so we booked a table for Sunday lunchtime.

First impression - it was difficult to get across the road from the car park to the pub as the traffic was heavy and Very very fast but we all made it.
Inside a bit dated but clean and delightful friendly staff.

Huge varied menu with assorted prices for carvery, speciality sausage menu, pensioners and children and tots menu. Drinks reasonably priced.
The food was excellent, large portions of well flavoured, well seasoned, good home cooked food
served hot. The 'Derbyshire' pie was particularly well received.

Will visit again when we are in the area.
Don't expect twee modern gastro pub. This is a proper old fashioned pub with good food.
Well done The Millstone, long may it prosper

... but what a great place to stay. When the rain cleared, the views are spectacular. The staff were very friendly - our evening meal was great, and the breakfast excellent. We were very pleased with the room and felt really 'at home' sat in the lounge, in a comfy chair, having a drink.
We also managed a good walk in between the spells of heavy rain!!

We didn't stop in the pub, we just went for a meal and was not disappointed. The pub was great setting, lots of nic nacks around the place. The night we went on there seemed to be only one member of staff serving but this didnt stop the young girl who worked so hard to ensure food, drinks and snacks were served.

I had the liver. Very good. Could have done with being slightly pinker, to really allow the texture to come out but never the less very good.

Very enjoyable night.

We spent 1 night at The Millstone and I have to say it was extremely pleasant, I have to say that from the outside the place looked a bit tired but the warm welcome more than made up for that, The staff were the most friendly I have met for some time and the room was very nice with a good view.
The breakfast was really good and again the service was second to none, my wife had the smoked fish which looked really nicely cooked and she said it was beautiful. I had the full English which was lovely.
We returned a again for the Thursday Italian buffet which was extremely good value and very nicely cooked. I aren't usually a fan of buffet meals but I really enjoyed it and once again the staff were really pleasant.
We are on holiday from New Zealand at the moment but we will be back at this place on our next visit,
