Booked here for 2 nights (Friday/Saturday) for a walking weekend with 4 other 30-something males.
The George is reasonably priced - £60 per night for a double/Twin, £35 for a single & very very convenient for the town centre - about a 5 minute walks to everywhere. It is also opposite the Rail Station for those travelling by train.
We came by car & parked for free in the Station car park opposite the hotel all weekend, with no trouble.
The rooms were OK, clean with Tea & coffee facilities & TV with terrestrial channels shower & comfortable beds. They could do with a refreshing link of paint though, but are more B&B than Hotel standard
The Breakfast was good enough - cereal, toast, Full English or Kippers -not the best ever, but OK.
The hotel bar was blond wood & over lit & populated by a bunch of local barflies who look at you every time you walk in & served 2 southern real ales, which is not necessarily what you want in Lancs. Fear not, however, as the Star in opposite provides the kind of typical Northern English pub environment with CAMRA approved real ales.
For somewhere a bit more lively, try The Globe on the main street which has bands on Saturday nights & brews it's own ales.
In summary, for what we wanted The George was perfect & I would defiantly book again were we to go walking around Glossop again, but would look elsewhere were I going for a weekend with my wife.
