“Real Ale Heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

If you're into real ale then you'll be in heaven here. Changing selection of ales, some from local brewers and plenty of others from further afield. Interestingly if you are a true beer aficionado you can have your pint served with or without the sparkler. The Draught Bass they had on recently was the best I have ever tasted.

The use of a sparkler is most common in the north of England, when used the beer is forced through small apertures resulting in a creamy head, it is softer and creamier with less bitterness. Beers in the South tend to be served without the sparkler resulting in more bitterness, and a slightly harder mouthfeel, a classic would be Fullers London Pride or Greene King Abbott Ale, both server without the sparkler. Of course it's always down to personal preference, so we're happy to serve our beer with our without the sparkler.

“Best Pub & Real Ale in Glossop.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

Really good traditional pub located next to the railway station. The range and quality of real ales on offer is outstanding. Regular breweries seem to include Pictish, Ossett and Abbeydale according to the bar staff, who incidentally, are very knowledgeable about the beer and will give free tasters before you buy. On my last couple of visits there was a range of beers from Roosters, classic Marstons Pedigree, Draught Bass and Fullers London Pride which is quite unusual to find in this area and was in top condition. Old Rosie cider is also available on draught along with bottled Organic and Aspells ciders. Beer Festivals are also held, I think the next one is in July.

“Great beer”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012

Always have at least 4 guest beers on which change regularly, so always something new to try. Friendly, no frills pub, great for a quiet pint or three or a chat with the staff and regulars. Beer is always in excellent condition.

“Sunday lunch from the regulars”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

Visited Sunday lunchtime, 4 guest beers all on top form, particularly good was the Alchemist Ale from Pictish Brewery, very pale, well balanced with a good hoppy finish. What was surprising was a regular arrived complete with a selection of cheeses, french bread, and chilli dipping sauces he had made earlier. Quite happy to share it with the customers! Very nice, wish I could find a few more pubs like this closer to me!!

“Consistently good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2012

Have been going in here for several years and the beer is always consistently top quality. Changing selection of real ales on offer, sometimes from local producers, usually 3-4 at any one time, along with the usual selection of lagers. Organic and single variety bottled ciders also available along with Old Rosie on hand pump.
Only downside is that they don't offer food (other than crisps, nuts etc.)
