“Another great stay at Dunscar Farm”

This was our third visit to Dunscar Farm and we love staying here! Great location, great breakfasts that really set you up for a day's walking - and comfy, warm rooms to return to. Love the fresh fruit, Derbyshire oat cakes and the free range eggs from their chickens. Thanks Janet and Gary for another enjoyable visit!

Had a great couple of days here. Friendly and helpful. Views from the upstairs window of Winnets pass. Large breakfast which was delicous, It a couple of miles out of town so you will need a car. But there are footpaths in 3 directions one to Mam Tor which you can climb in under an hour. and two different ways to Castleton. Only down side is it is not the cheapest in town but is worth it. Recommended.

I recently stayed here over the Bank Holiday weekend and overall enjoyed the experience. My friend and I shared the twin bedroom which we found to be very clean and comfortable with extra touches of chocolates and biscuits in the room. The beds were really comfortable although the pillows were too soft for my liking. The breakfast was excellant although we could have done with extra toast ! Like a previous guest there was no warm welcome, just a note pinned to the door but everything was explained. I would definitely return especially for the location as you can leave the farm and walk in any direction. Castleton is a lovely busy town and I would recommend the Nags Head pub for a meal and the cafe the 3 roofs for an exceallnt cream tea !

We had a long weekend here, 2 couples plus a singleton. Our hosts were welcoming, the rooms excellent (we had the family room - for 2 of us! - the others were in smaller rooms downstairs) and the breakfast (with variations) set us up well for the walking we had planned.
On the second morning we helped feed a couple of lambs .... ahh!
Geographically, it's in a wonderful setting and perfect for a number of days walking, without having to drive anywhere.

Room Tip: The 'family' room upstairs is a bargain

On a personal recommendation, our party of two couples had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay at Dunscar Farm. As well as a cold breakfast buffet, the cooked breakfast was excellent, with a bit of variation on the menu each day, and eggs done to perfection how ever you chose to have them cooked. It is a pleasant rural location, with a walk of about 10 minutes on Public Footpaths (or 15 minutes via the road and lane) to Castleton. A very pleasant B&B, that we hope to return to another time.

My wife and I have stayed here before; I booked two nights for this weekend (as a surprise). Our car broke down on route and we were not able to continue our journey. I rang the owners as the AA attended and cancelled our room ; the lady was off-hand and complained that she had refused potential visitors. I felt that she did not belive me as she remarked "you are joking!!". There was no gratitude or concern, just anger and disappointment; my wife was also disappointed (and upset!!). The line went dead and our conversation ceased. I could simply have not told her and not turned up; but she did not even acknowledge this.
