Lovely little B & B in a superb location. Rooms and service were first class, everything was clean and the owners were brilliant to us.
Prices were very very good, and the rooms were spacious and comftable.
Would highly recommend this B & B and also the location, as there are plenty of walks and pubs nearby!

We have just returned from two days in Castleton where we stayed at the Rambler's Rest B&B - Clare (the owner) has recently taken over the business (Dec 2009) and from our experience is doing a thoroughly good job - excellent breakfast, friendly informative service but completely non-intrusive with clean newly refurbished rooms and walking distance from some excellent attractions, pubs and hill walking. We would certainly book here again.

We stayed at the Ramblers Rest for 2 nights in April 2010 booking 3 rooms in total. The make up of our party was 6 adults, 1 child and a baby.On arrival, Robbie and Claire were on hand to welcome us (nice early check in at 2pm) and show us promptly to our rooms. The rooms were ideal for our needs, two double rooms with en-suite for myself and my wife and my mum and dad then the family room upstairs for my brother and his family. All 3 rooms were extremely clean, comfortable, well lit and warm. The breakfast was excellent and comprised of a great selection of cereals, tea, coffee, juice and the all important fry up cooked to order with a mixture of toast. Claire was very flexible with the breakfast arrangements which was a godsend as we had an 18 month old baby..!!!!! The location was perfect as it was very close to all the amenities and walking routes from Castleton however it was neatly tucked down a side road so there wasn't constant passing traffic.. The village itself is superb comprising of numerous coffee shops, gift shops, pubs, convenience stores, fish and chip shop and a large tourist information centre 2 minute walk away. The irresistible Mam Tor is circa 2 miles away from Castleton and provides a great challenge to walkers and hikers of all abilities. We ate out on both nights, the first night was at the Bulls Head in the village and it was just ok, nothing fancy but decent overall..On the second night, we went to The George which again was in the village, about 3-4 minutes away from the Ramblers Rest. We were told that the chef was American and he certainly lived up to his billing as the portions were huge!!!! The staff were so professional, friendly and had excellent character. The menu was really varied and value for money was brilliant. Overall, we would highly highly recommend the Ramblers Rest to anyone staying in the area.

Myself and my fiance stayed Friday 12th and Saturday 13th February. Upon arrival the accomodation looked to be very small, but we were soon surprised. The private car park adjacent to the property is a wonderful added extra (no car parking costs). We stayed in the cellar bedroom, which has it's own entrance so we could come and go as we liked without disturbing any other the other guests. The breakfasts we gorgeous and very filling. I am on a slimming world diet, but had to put it to one side as they were too nice to resist. Plus the Bury Black Pudding was yummy.

The ensuite facilities were lovely and the towels were large and fluffy, just the way they should be.

On the Saturday my Finace's parents came to join us for the afternoon last minute, they decided they would like to stay but we couldnt find any accomodation. Claire offered to put another "put me up bed" in our large bedroom (it already had a spare bed), to which we were very happy about. They were also made to feel very welcome.

I would not hesitate in recomending Ramblers Rest to anybody. As previously mentioned, Claire and Robbie only took ownership of the B & B in December, but already have made a huge impact. They were in the process of renovating one of the rooms whilst we were there, no noise was heard though.

We will definately be visiting again soon.

.We stayed as a group of 10 at the weekend and the owners catered for all our requests.
The attention to detail was notable, all bedrooms were very clean and comfortable. The jacuzzi room we stayed in was perfect.
You simply could not want for anything and the large breakfast before we left just topped off the stay.
Will be returning very soon.

This B&B was taken over the first week of December 2009 and you can tell as the previous reviews of the place being dusted and outdated no longer apply. The owners are working their way around renovating the whole place and the rooms that have been done are amazing and even the ones that are due to be renovated next have got lovely crisp white bed linen, fluffy towels that you would love at home and deluxe tolietries in the ensuites. The breakfast was superb with piping hot plates and food that was cooked to perfection. The new owners are very friendly and very accomodating. Cant wait to go back.
