This was our second visit to the Castleton Innkeepers Lodge. The last time we visited it was experiencing a heatwave, this time a storm - we seem to arrive during extremes of weather. We arrived early and enjoyed a coffee next to an open fire whilst our room was readied. We were given a room in the main building which was spotless and very welcoming. That evening we enjoyed Pie Night at the hotel and had an excellent meal. Our only criticism was that the place did feel cold - minimal heat from the radiators and no open fires. I suspect that was possibly due to only a few people being in that evening. We were woken up at 6.55am to the sound of a vaccumn cleaner. I appreciate that an inn needs to be cleaned at some point but I did think that was a little inconsiderate. Our next challenge was the window cleaner at 8.30am - again, that seems a bit inconsiderate in a hotel that was predominantly empty - could the guest rooms not have waited until after breakfast? Breakfast was traditional Innkeepers Lodge fayre and was fine. Throughout our stay the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall we enjoyed our visit and we would return.
