We stayed in a family room with our 3 children. They loved roaming the grounds, watching the lambs, feeding the goats and building a tree fort with the other children staying at the hostel. The location could not be better; stunning outlook and an easy walk to the village. My early morning walk up Losehill at the back of the hostel was one of the highlights of my trip.
The rooms was small but comfortable and clean. The only issue was the overheating, we were roasting and ended up sleeping with the windows open even though it was freezing outside.

Glad you had a great time - the lambs have all grown a bit since your visit and we have some pigs for the children to feed next time you come. Thanks for reviewing.

A refurbished hostel, good modern fittings. Cleaning needs something to be desired, though floors and surfaces are clean, anything above are often unkempt with cobwebs flies mould etc, public rooms are better.
Bunks are new but very hard!
Food is good but heavily reliant on frozen prepared fare. Full english breakfast is OK, continental selection pretty poor.

Thanks for reviewing. You are right, the Victorian gothic ceilings are spectacular but a real challenge when it comes to reaching cobwebs in high corners - We'll try harder. Thanks for the honest feedback - it helps us.

Stayed in a twin room with own bathroom. The location is just perfect!
The room was clean and tidy. Unfortunately the room we stayed in (B7) was overheated as it is placed next to the boiler room and the window can only be opened for couple inches. I cannot imagine staying in that room during the summer. There was a nice mirror with a small lamp above it, which did not have a switch(?).
I would definitely recommend this hostel, however if you're traveling in any warm months, stay away from room B7.

Room Tip: Avoid room B7

Thanks for the review - glad you liked the place. Sorry about the overheating in B7, it is above the boiler room and the heat leaks through- the good news is we have booked some work to come and change the controls and insulate the ceiling which should solve the problem. Cool room next visit!

Never stayed in a YHA before but heres what I found. The staff are really knowledgeable about the local area and keen to help. We stayed on a self catering basis and the facilities were spot on. Rooms and common areas were clean. amazing value for a good nights sleep. One thing worth mentioning is the amazing setting. The grounds are gorgeous and I enjoyed feeding the goats!

Glad you had a good time. The goats said thanks for feeding them and please come back soon... loosely translated from goat language.
