“Want some atmosphere ?”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

This delightful village pub makes the most of its 17th century roots, to create a delightful atmosphere.

Add to that atmosphere an excellent range of real ales and very good pub grub and you are gauranteed a good evening out. During the 4 days we were staying in Castleton, we regularly observed this place to be busy, when other were less so.

My partner and I had 'Innkeeper's Plate Pie' & 'Leek, potato and blue chees crumble.' Both were very filling, hot and well cooked.

“Evening meal out”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

We went for an evening meal & this looked really cozy from the outside so thought give it a try. It is a nice place to eat. Had steak & kidney pie, my wife had sea bass. Nice big platter for cheeseboard after. Good selection of beers on offer.

“Nice meal, very relaxed”
Reviewed September 8, 2013 via mobile

Visiting castleton for the first time with family my husband and I called in to book a table for later in the day. Staff were very friendly and we chose the table we wanted which was tucked away in a corner. When we arrived it had been reserved for us. Good selection of real ales on which was good! There was a wide range of pub/bar meals on offer and the food was hot and freshly cooked. Service was ok, you order yourself at the bar. We were probably there for over 2 hours and at no point were we rushed which is great when you've got catching up to do. It got busier later with people coming in after walking. Would return especially as its dog friendly.

“Satisfies the inner man or woman”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

The was an evening meal for the second night of a 2-night stay. Just about OK as the food was reasonable. The staff were a bit pre-occupied chatting to each other and the Christmas decorations were still in situ. Mrs Apothecary thought the cooking was pretty good.
