We stayed here for one night as it seemed to be the best hotel nearest to Donington race circuit, it is part of the hand picked hotel group. We arrived on which was one of the sunniest days we have had this year and all looked good, we had been allocated room 37 which was described as an executive room, it was very cold and on the small side, the bathroom was quite old fashioned and a little bit shabby on closer inspection. We ate in the brasserie for lunch which was good value for a hotel. We had booked the a la carte restaurant for our dinner in the evening but it was the only restaurant. I had soup which was leek but it was flavourless I added salt and pepper which I never do in a restaurant I wasnt offered any bread or give any when we sat at the table although some people were, we both had sirloin steak which was a poor excuse for a steak. My dessert wasnt
even what I ordered so overall for £161 with wine it was extremely dissapointing
Definately wouldnt go back

Room Tip: Make sure if you ask for a river view you get a room at the front ours was side on to the river and...

Dear Guest
I was disappointed to read your review following your recent stay at The priest House Hotel, in particular your comments regarding the food and the temperature of your bedroom on your arrival. I have since discussed your comments with my head chef and housekeeper, who in turn have retrained their teams to prevent similar situations reoccurring in the future. May I thank you for your comments and do hope you may reconsider your decision not to return to The Priest House Hotel some time in the future. Kind regards Michael

I stayed one night in cottage 6. I left before breakfast in the morning. Room was stiflingly hot on arrival, turned off radiator and opened the windows, but still uncomfortable several hours later. Good job they don't allow pets, cos the bathroom is not big enough for a cat to get in, let alone big enough to swing it. That is a disgrace, as is the inability to use the provided shower shampoo when actually in the shower - nowhere to store it, and nowhere to dry yourself either. Room itself of adequate size for one night but very dark. Meal in restaurant was reasonable quality, but glad I am on a diet, as amount of food is too small. You should not need to fill up on bread rolls when the food costs this much. I tend to use iPad when travelling, so no Internet available in cottages, as there is no wifi. That is a big nuisance, so all in all I will not be back.

Room Tip: I would hope the main house rooms are better??

Dear Guest
I was sorry to read your recent review following your stay at The priest House Hotel. Following your comments I have asked my maintenance manager to check the heating in these rooms to ensure they are set at a comfortable level for guests’ arrival. We do have a couple of rooms with shower rooms, which are a little restricted. Following your comments I have arranged for a shelf to be installed in the cubicle as clearly it is not satisfactory at present. I was disappointed to read your comment regarding the size of our food portions, which I have discussed with my chef, who in turn has reviewed our all our dishes to ensure they meet the standards we set. As you say we do not have WiFi coverage in the cottage rooms, although we are now able to offer a hub for the bedroom which can be used in an internet sock to provide wireless coverage in the bedroom. Thank you for your comments, kind regards Michael

We really enjoyed our weekend at the Priest House. Unfortunately we had had to postpone the booking for a few weeks (at the last minute) due to a family bereavement but the staff couldn't have been more helpful or understanding when we had to re-arrange. In spite of one or two adverse comments on Trip Advisor, we found the choice and standard of food and service very good. The staff were attentive but not intrusive and pleasant and helpful at all times. The setting of the Hotel is beautiful and given the reasonably good weather we were able to enjoy a walk by the river followed by tea on the terrace. One very small 'nigggle' - there was only one British standard socket in the room. As the Hotel provided a kettle in the room with a very short flex it would not reach the socket from the nearest available surface. I appreciate when the rooms were probably last upgraded people didn't have the number of other mobile electronics we all now carry too, but it was only a minor inconvenience. Having said that when I mentioned it at the reception I was immediately furnished with a 4 pin extension lead - but I do think from the dreaded health and safety point of view it wouldn't go amiss if another socket or two to be installed. BUT please don't let this put you off. For a lovely weekend the Priest House Hotel will take a lot of beating.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and stay in the main house if possible

Dear Guest
Thank you for your kind comments regarding the quality of food and service you received during your stay and for your comments regarding the professionalism and friendliness of the team, which I have passed on to all concerned. I was concerned to read your comments regarding the lack of electrical sockets in your bedroom, which we will review and look to install additional socket, as clearly it is very inconvenient, when as you say we all carry so many addition electrical items these days. We hope you may return sometime in the near future, kind regards Michael

The hotel is nestled alongside the River Trent and has lovely views. The receptionist was very friendly and was able to upgrade me to a suite in the tower. My room was very nice with its own lounge, it was spotlessly clean and nice and warm, definitely worth the upgrade cost. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Dinner was also good and freshly cooked. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I didn't have any problems sleeping in a strange bed as it and the pillows were just right for me

Room Tip: Treat yourself to a room in the tower. The views are lovely and the room is very nice

Ambiance is really excellent both outside and in but regrettably the Fine Dining restaurant fails to meet expectation by far. The menu was over complicated and plated combinations failed to work and get the taste buds rolling. The food was very bland and accompanying sauces were also tasteless and disappointing. Whilst presentation was fair the outcome was most disappointing for what was the most expensive meal I have attended in ages. Will need to really improve significantly to get me through the doors for a repeat.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the wigs and Trent river - front of house.

I got married here in April 2013 so could be biased as obviously we love the hotel as a wedding venue. Our day went so smoothly, we were so pleased with the staff on the day, very helpful and friendly. So as a wedding venue I would recommend it to anyone, perfect setting next to the river Trent.

The hotel rooms are of good standard, we stayed in the suite at the top of the tower. Very nice and spacious. Cottage rooms were small but of also decent standard.

Food is excellent, very high quality. You get what you pay for, on the expensive side but no different to any other good hotel.

On a summers day, sitting outside the brassier bar with a drink.. You wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

We attended our friends' amazing wedding here last summer, and it was a truly beautiful day. The photos were by the river as the sun shone and champagne was served. Really gorgeous venue and friendly, helpful staff. The wedding food was amazing, and when I visited a few years previously for an overnight stay the meal in the restaurant was delicious too. We didn't stay this time, so can't comment on the rooms/ breakfast at present. The decor and overall feel is amazing, and I would love to stay again soon. The drinks prices were CRAZY though, think for 2 drinks it was about £16, granted it was a large wine, but a large wine and a pint?! Would be the only thing that would put me off returning.
