“Really good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2012

My partner and I stayed in this hotel when we were having a weekend trip to Alton Towers. It was cheaper than the resort hotel at the theme park, and we got a double room for a good price as it's an airport hotel.
Having breakfast included was a real plus, and the selection was great and all very tasty, it was nice to have a good meal before setting out.
The shower and bathroom were lovely. Only complaint being that the toilet chain had to be "pumped" before it would flush which was a little irritating. Everything else room wise was perfect, comfy bed, good facilities and very clean. My only other gripe was that we were placed in a room on the ground floor, which was a bit irritating as we had to keep the curtains closed for the entire trip as the window looked out straight onto the car park, but I'm pretty sure if we had asked to change rooms there wouldn't have been an issue, it's just I didn't want to make a fuss over something that really wasn't going to affect us as we would be out of the room all day.
As this hotel was on the motorway, I would've expected parking to be complimentary, but it kin d of comes with the Hilton territory that you will be overcharged for everything.
It was lovely to have free use of the gym and pool. My partner and I went for a swim both nights we were there, they also have a lovely hot tub, steam room and sauna for guests to use, I felt like we were really staying in luxury conditions.
the staff were very friendly and helpful and despite their surprise at how young my partner and I are initially when checking in they were very smiley and helpful overall.
In summary, a very nice hotel, lovely facilities, a few minor gripes about the room and prices but if you were to have the same issue I'm fairly sure the staff would have no problems moving you to a more suitable room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor if you don't want to have to keep the curtains shut during you...

No difficulty in finding hotel. Separate park and stay car park on left.Check in very efficiently handled and bus pick up arranged for the morning ( they run on the hour ). Had only just got into our room when the receptionist rang to make sure the room was ok, which it was.
Bar food was quite good but drinks exhorbitant. £5.80 for a small glass of wine. The restaurant was charging £20.50 for 2 courses but most people seemed to be eating in the bar.
Bus left on time in the morning and, on the way back the polite driver took us right to our car. Impressive.

We booked the Hilton for a one night stay before jetting off in the morning from East Midands Airport. At a cost of £69 for a one night stay, on-site car parking for a week & airport transfers - I thought it was great value.

We were dropped off by a Hilton mini bus driver & picked back up. Coming back, the driver stopped at each persons car & unloaded the luggage. That was real service as he could have just simply dropped us all off at the hotel main entrance & made us walk back to the carpark.

10/10

We stayed here last night after a very boozy wedding a few miles away. We didn't arrive until 01.30 and stayed in the bar for an hour before retiring. Given the hour, we still received good, polite waitress service. When we got to the room, we were pretty disappointed given the price we'd paid for the room (£150.00). Very basic fittings and very dated decor. Furthermore, the corridors reeked of stale cigarettes which had seeped into the room ever-so slightly. I slept well (unsurprisingly given the lateness and alcohol!) in the morning, we discovered that the shower had less power than a watering can and the towels are possibly the smallest I've ever seen in an hotel.
Breakfast was very good and I'd like to mention the chef who made a special breakfast for the bride and groom without being asked - It was a lovely touch.
The public rooms in this place are pretty decent and it looks clean but at the end of the day, it's very expensive and we expected a higher standard of room with better bathroom equipment.

I so look forward to flying from East Midlands as it means I get to stay at my favorite Hotel. I cannot praise the staff or standard highly enough. Nothing is too much trouble, questions or concerns are dealt with efficiently, the attention to detail in all departments is brilliant. Rooms are spotless and the beds comfortable. I would like to say thank you for yet another memorable stay and look forward to my flight. I must not forget the lovely gentleman who took care of our cases and us on our journey to the airport.

Room Tip: South is quiet but with AC keep the window shut!!!

My partner and I checked in at this hotel on 6th May, bank holiday Sunday. We booked this hotel for a trip to Alton Towers the next day as it came in at the same price as a 3 star hotel 20 minutes nearer to the attraction, hence our decision to stay at The Hilton.
We booked a King Deluxe Room with breakfast included & paid just under £60 total for one night.
When we eventually found the hotel, which was an estimated journey of 55 minutes, it turned into 2 hours as the post code is not registered to the hotel, apparently, when we reached a certain roundabout with nothing but sign posts onto different motorways it said we had reached our destination. This needs looking into as it was a stressful journey up there.
Check in was easy and you are greeted by a grand reception area, typical Hilton, marbled floors, nice features and my favourite - check in/ reception staff, what a lovely bunch of girls! Very professional, knowledgable & helpful girls.
We were allocated room number 400 - ideal for us, just down it's own corridor on the top floor, we noticed an apple, small bottle of wine, a bottle of still mineral & sparkling water and 2 glasses outside our door on the floor, not on a tray or anything. As I have stayed in a King Deluxe Room before I knew this was meant to be in our oom, curious I called down to Reception and they clarified my thoughts for me, 'it should have been put in your room', funnily enough neither of us fancied the apple after it had been on the carpet outside.
Another thing is the room typr we booked (described as a bit of luxury), was said to include bathrobes & slippers, which we was really looking forward too, but no, no sign of them anywhere. So much room in the Deluxe room but no minibar?? I must admit, I would have thought the Hilton would have offered a minibar service in this grade of room.
The prices in the hotel are VERY expensive, I paid just under £4 for a small glass of coca cola and the hotel was offering a 2 course meal at £25pp, we went to Reception with a couple of queries and was offered £10pp discount from that set price but the set menu didn't get our tastebuds flowing plus with the price of their drinks we decided to venture out and went to a lovely little pub/ restaurant in Kegworth called the Otter where we got two starters, two mains, 2 sides, a bottle of wine & a soft drink for just under £40 which was well worth the 5 minute drive, lovely pub & staff.
We would stay at this hotel again but I would like to make sure that the room type we book can offer everything listed in the description as that is why we paid extra for the 'extras' that were left outside of the room along with the thought of a fluffy bathrobe & slippers!
Great staff though, a real benefit to the hotel and breakfast is great but the plates are a little small!

Room Tip: Request room 400 as it has it's own private corridor
