“Nice old pub, kitchen was "on holiday", alternative food disappointing”

Description: A warm welcome awaits you at our family run pub, a hub for real ale drinkers and walkers alike. A traditional 17th century village inn, where highwayman Dick Turpin is reported to have frequented on his travels. An increasingly rare breed of unspoilt inn, where time has stood still, encapsulating the character and charm of the building. With fresh homecooked food, a selection of fine real ales and warmth from the open fires, there is much to tempt you. Nothing comes close to our pork pie and a pint!

We had planned a weekend away centred around a nearby hotel and walks nearby and had chosen this pub to eat at because of its heritage and good write ups, so we were disappointed to find that the "kitchen was closed due to holidays", I understand everyone has holidays but if they had published this on their website, we would have made other plans and come another time. The meagre options still available - cobs made earlier in the day and woeful ploughmans for £5 few bits of cheese & crackers and a dollop of pickle did not make up for it. Nice fires though.

Lovely old pub with open log fire. Unfortuntley on the day we went for lunch the kitchen was closed for staff holidays but there was a supply of wrapped sandwiches and pies. Great selection of hand pulled bitters and also bitter poured from the jug. Could have stayed all afternoon sampling the ales but went on the walk suggested on the pub website, good walk but we started too late and ended up doing the last 30 mins in the dark! Thank goodness for torch app on phone!!

This is a quaint old inn reputedly visited by the famous highwayman - Dick Turpin.
Stone floors and a variety of ales to sample including ciders.

You need to look for this inn as it's not on the side of the A6, but up a small side-road. Car park available which gets busy during summer months.

There's usually a large open fire burning in the colder months which tends to lull you off to sleep after a pint or two.

Good selection of food on the menu to choose from.

We went here for the first time with our family, very cozy pub with lots of different nooks to sit in, good quality real ale poured from jugs. We really enjoyed it and will return.

We stopped off for lunch on our way to Crich Tram Museum and were not disappointed with this lovely old pub up a side road. Friendly welcome and wqe were soon tucking in to a plentiful supply of good food at very reasonable prices. Handy for the Denby Centre so will definitely visit again when we are in the area.
