You might not expect this chip shop to be as nice as it is. But once you have tried you may never go to another! Me, my hubby and kids thinks its the best for miles. Tasty white battered fish and lovely chips. I even like mushy peas now. We have been to the other George's near Ripley too. It's called the Thorntree. It is surrounded by rolling hills and the food there is also lovely. Slight advantage that they also have a bar.
My kids nearly always have the kids chicken nugget meal which are proper chicken too and there is plenty. I generally have a small fish, chips and mushy peas...perfect size. I think you get bread and butter too.

The only down side - it can get really busy and you may have to queue out the door! Which is a nightmare when you are starving marvin. The smell of fish and chips wafting past is enough to drive you crazy.
However, Worth the wait. It's making me hungry just thinking about it.

This restaurant is located on the main oad with beautiful views over the countryside at the back. The interior is very traditional and the portions are very genorous. Great fish and chips!

In my view, George's has come to believe in its own publicity rather more than is warranted. Yes, it is always busy and the food is fine, but it is not that special and there are certainly better Fish and Chip shops in the area if you are prepared to look for them. More of a fast food chain outlet with as much investment in the packaging as the product which does seem to be more production line than individual tasty meals.

There is a much nicer and cheaper chip shop 3 mins walk away.
You can never get a table here either.

Despite living in Derbyshire, I've never eaten here until last Saturday. Undergoing redecoration at the moment but this blended into insignificance. Fantastic meal and great service. Everything was perfect (OK if I was going to be picky I'd say the tables for 2 are slightly small).
