Just spent the most amazing day riding around the Derwent Valley dams and reservoirs. Hired a great bike from the Bike Garage in Bamford (excellent service advice and value for money - £15 for 1/2 day). It took me almost all this time to ride from Bamford and around the dams and reservoirs but it was a great route with fantastic trails and even greater views a real must fo for visitors to the area !

A lovely spot for leaving the car and walking, an added bonus is the footpath has been created with a cycle path alongside making it much safer for cycling.Fairly flat pavement walking, but with the bonus of hilly footpaths around the far side of the dam

Who would name a reservoir after a royal? Should be Ashopton or Derwent Reservoir after the flooded villages beneath. My Dad remembered staying in Derwent Hall in the 30s, before the flooding and the naming of it after a gin-sodden gambler
