“Time your food order”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Four of us just returned from having a meal as it was the only place in the locality open for food around 5.00 pm. This was at the end of the "afternoon" menu and before the "evening" menu, and it showed. The quiche was served cold with no-one asking if we wanted it warm, the new potatoes had obviously just been warmed up as several had black on one side and were hard.

The pie was very dry and meat in the outer edges of the crust was black, obviously had just been kept warm, although they assured us it was not "just warmed up". Sorry, but it was too obvious to be anything else. The gravy moistened it fortunately. The only dish which was OK was the scampi.

The ice cream trio was mostly vanilla, not really a problem but the board did say vanilla, strawberry and raspberry. The crumble was good.

Service was strange. No gravy was brought with the pie, we had to ask for it. When we ordered the coffees, we asked for cream, however a jug of milk was brought. When we queried this, we were told they thought we were talking about the crumble. The coffees were brought first, then the crumble and ice cream followed about 5 minutes later.

If you do go for a meal, either go earlier in the afternoon when the food is fresh, or wait and order from the dinner menu.

“Excellent value”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

Four of us went on a Living Social deal and what great value it was too!
There is a great choice of beers and some excellent wines.
A very comprehensive menu and very friendly staff.
The food was enjoyed by all four of us and was of really good quality.
Our only slight misgiving was that the starters were abnsolutely huge and therefore the two ladies found the main course a bit of a struggle.
We men ate heartily though!!!!

“Great food, wonderful scenery”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

The location couldn't be better, beautiful scenery facing the Ladybower Reservoir, a scenic drive over the Snake Pass to get there.
The menu isn't vast, but there is enough of a varied choice to accommodate all taste buds. For once I passed on a starter, and boy, am I glad I did, I chose the battered fish n chips, and flaming hell, when it arrived it was HUGE........ it came on a massive plate, and was at least 10"-12" long , served with chips and mushy peas.......I couldn't actually finish it because it was that filling. Very tasty fish and lovely crispy batter. My husband had the gammon, which was served with eggs and pineapple, chips and peas, and again, a huge portion.
After letting our food settle, we had dessert, I just had a trio of ice cream, my other half had sticky toffee pudding and hot custard......guess what......another big portion...but he managed to finish it.
It was very busy, but the service was good......

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

Have called in just for a drink on several occasions but had not dined here until we were given a voucher for a two course meal for two people by my stepson. We booked a table but had to postpone twice due to illness and staff re-booked both times with no problems. Finally arrived on a beautiful evening and enjoyed a lovely meal. We both expected a restricted menu as we were using a voucher, but on enquiring, we were pleased to be told that everything was available except beef fillet (available with£4 supplement) . My wife and both selected starters and mains. The starters were nearly generous enough to be called mains and were delicious and the mains were just as good.
The service was good, staff were helpful and friendly. The menu was quite extensive and varied. The beer was well kept though the drinks prices are a little on the high side. We look forward to the next visit
