Fascinating and informative and extensive museum of many toys and games of yesteryear. Information on child labour (chimney sweeps and cotton mill work at a very young age) both extremely dangerous and unhealthy, food for thought for the young of today.

Great for portraits and carvings, the staircase is the best kept one in the uk from 17th century. Tea rooms gift shop bathroom facility's and child friendly large man made pond and small woodland

We have visited 2 or 3 times with nonagenarian parents and kids under 8. Everyone likes it and especially the experience of climbing through the chimney - yes, really. Worth the money just to do that. Nostalgia rules for the 2 older generations, but there seemed to be enough interactivity to engage the kids as well. Staff friendly if a little over-informative, as National Trust staff can be. Helpful in the transport and care of elders. Only complaint is the cafe - overpriced and limited in choice. I am sure the National Trust used to run their own cafes with volunteer labour and home-made cakes. Now it looks as though they have handed over to a mediocre catering company. Shame!
