“Great cottage...great location... great break.”
Reviewed March 6, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

We were greeted by Maria and chilled wine, chocolates, biscuits and milk. Parking is in an adjoining leisure centre car park, for which you require a permit that had been purchased for us by the owners by prior arrangement. The cottage is lovely and cosy with a well equipped kitchen, (Inc...tea, coffee, sugar etc..) spacious and immaculately clean shower room and the kingsize bed is really comfortable. One word of warning.......access within the bedroom loft area is a little restrictive due to timber beams, but this did not cause us any concern. The property is situated near the centre of the very well appointed and historic town......so perfect for the procurement of provisions. There's a good selection of restaurants, tea rooms, general shops and boutiques, plus some interesting antique emporiums. If walking is your bag, we found the location absolutely ideal, with several very good walks accessible from pretty much the properties doorstep, and many more within a 10 mile radius. Tap into the owners local knowledge, as their advice on 'all' aspects was invaluable. We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a well appointed, clean and perfectly located base to access The Peak District, Derby and Staffordshire.

We spent a week in the Pegges Almshouse, the whole experience was excellent. First impressions set the tone for the week, the key collection was seamless and the unexpected welcome pack started the holiday very well. The owner was knowledgable about the area and made a couple of suggestions of places to visit. The cottage was spotless with all the amenities you will ever need and good quality fixtures and fittings.

The cottage is a 5 minute walk to the centre were there are a number of pubs and restaurants. Would recommend The Smiths Tavern, traditional pub with a good selection of real ale & whisky, The Bowling Green, good pub food and the Lamplight, good restaurant / set menu.

One of Maria's recommendation was to walk along the Tissington trail to Thorpe, once there a visit to the Old Dog is recommended, real fires, real ale and great food.

“Perfect getaway for two”
Reviewed January 8, 2016 for a stay in January 2016

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The owner made is feel so welcome and had made some special touches around the cottage as I had mentioned were on our honeymoon, including a bottle of fizz for us when we arrived! She had also arranged to get us a parking permit so we didn't need to get one ourselves. The cottage itself is very warm and cosy with pretty much everything you could need. The kitchen is modern and well equipped, and the bathroom is extremely well appointed with the modern tiles contrasting with the original stone wall and a lovely rain head shower. If you don't mind stepping through quite a small opening to get to the bedroom (the gable end that divides the cottage is part of its listed status) then I would strongly recommend you book a few nights and enjoy the beautiful town of Ashbourne and this wonderful little gem of a cottage.

“Out of this world ”
Reviewed December 23, 2015 for a stay in December 2015

Well what can I say, what a beautiful well maintained grade 2 listed cottage. Maria and Ian have done a fab job with this and their hospitality was humbling. From the cleanliness to the querkiness of this cottage it really has been a perfect Christmas getaway. Ashbourne is a delightful town with antiques, boutiques old pubs and fab walks. I would definatly recommend a trip to dovedale, the tissington trail and (if have access to a car) drive to speedwell cavern and take a boat ride down the old lead mines :) .
We really did have a adventurous/relaxing 4 nights here, thank you Maria and Ian -HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

“Beautiful property and welcome - couldn't have asked for more”
Reviewed November 3, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Pegges Almshouse Cottage has everything you could wish for. The rooms are beautiful and every little detail makes for a perfect place to stay and relax. The welcome from Maria was also lovely - she sorted our parking pass, showed us everything in the property and then left us to have a perfect weekend. Wouldn't have changed a thing. Pegges cottage is perfectly situated for fantastic restaurants and cafes and also Dovedale - where we spent a wonderful day. Thanks so much Maria.

Immaculately presented cottage, which is over 300 years old. Well located in Ashbourne centre. Very clean and equipped with every convenience. You cannot park outside, but can park close by. A few steps to negotiate for access to cottage. Shower room is downstairs. Sainsbury is close by for easy self catering, no need to drive.

“Amazing”
Reviewed September 17, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

You will not be disappointed when renting this beautiful cottage. All modern conveniences with a great shower room. The bedroom was quirky and the bed and linen were excellent.
Owner Maria was extremely helpful by meeting us with our 3 day parking permit ticket and then showing us to the cottage around the corner from the car park, pointing out a nice walk about 2 miles down the trail to a nice pub, in fact we ate there twice during our stay as dogs are welcome. The cottage is in town and just a stones throw from the local shops, supermarket and a selection of pubs and tea rooms.

Dog friendly rental, by request to the owner.

We will certainly recommend to family and friends.
