Owner description: The National Trust is a registered charity. With your help, we protect some of the most important spaces and places in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We take care of historic houses, gardens, mills, coastline, forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, nature reserves, villages and pubs - and then we open them up for ever, for everyone. Dovedale valley is owned and cared for by the National Trust, with important woodlands, wildflower meadows and impressive limestone rock features throughout the valley. Please note; there is a privately owned car park a short and easy walk from the famous Stepping Stones. This is not a National Trust car park. The nearest National Trust car park is a mile away at Ilam Park, where National Trust member can park for free. There are toilets beside the Dovedale car park and these are owned and maintained by the Peak District National Park Authority. There is a charge of 20p to use these toilets.

car parking a little excessive at 2.50 but I suppose it is all day, you will get chased round car park by an attendant who will take your cash. there are toilets, and refreshments but by the time we had finished our walk on Sunday just after 5pm it had closed so cant comment on the food. The Dovedale walk is lovely but do not expect to see scenery from heights because this walk takes you to Milldale which is a 6 mile round trip, it is fairly flat but can be slippery in places. some of the rock formations are well worth a look, overall a very pleasant walk.

Arriving at the long stay car park near izaac Walton hotel, £2.50 parking felt a little expensive, especially with our group of 5 cars.
However the walks are lovely, paths very well maintained & considering you can follow the river for a bit not bad for pushchairs/ toddlers either.
Lovely views & walk options

This is a truly beautiful part of England. The views are stunning as you walk through the ravine. We walked from Ilam to Milldale, relatively early in the morning, total peace and quiet.

We walked from the Dovedale car park to Milldale - an easy walk with some steps and slippery patches along the way. Buy a walk guide for £1 at the National Trust information kiosk at the car park - it points out everything there is to see which otherwise you may miss. Toilets and refreshment kiosk at the car park. Think car park was £2.50 but well worth it if you want to talk a walk. Toilets and refreshment kiosk in Milldale also.

A very pleasant walk along the River Dove, across the stepping stones and on into Milldale. Lovely takeaway coffees and snacks at Pollys and then a return walk. 6 miles in total. Gorgeous scenery.
