“Good Food, Warm Service, Great Value”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

Visited this place recently on a Sunday evening for a family meal and had a satisfying dinner.

Identified this restaurant and another Thai one before our visit to Ashbourne and decided to give this one a try. After a long day visiting places and travelling, we all wanted to have a causal sit down dinner and this place certainly didn't disappoint us.

Having already identified its location in the market place of Ashbourne it was a gentle walk through the little town from our B&B. Was amazed to notice how quiet Ashbourne was except for few gatherings and talks near couple of pubs along the way. The entrance of this restaurant was very busy when we visited and soon realised it was for the take away. We were seated at a ‘window seat’ and that was perfect. As we’re new to Ashbournse this gave us the opportunity to have a glimpse of this part of the town with the evening light from outside mixing with the lights from the restaurant. Watching people walk around and the pubs opposite it was a nice experience.

Service was very good. Attentive. Starters and drinks arrived quickly. Main course was also served at the right time without having to wait too long. The dish we ordered later also made to the table in quick time.

The food was also good if not of top quality. The portions were average and for the price it looked ok. However, the egg fried rice we ordered wasn't that good. It didn't have that taste or the aroma. If you require to adjust the spice level of the dish then worth mentioning while placing the order.

Overall satisfied with this restaurant. Good food and quick service at an affordable price.

“Great food and a warm welcome Paul and Emma 9th July”

Ignore all the negative reviews about this place both of us eat out several times a week with work and we agreed this was one of the best chinese restaurants we,ve eaten at for some considerable time.
True the decor is a bit dated but the great food and friendly attentive staff make this place a real gem
make sure you visit if you,re in the area

“Not one of the best.”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

Sadly this restaurant wasn't that great...
We booked a table for four, they didn't even take our booking reference or anything when we got there... we were placed on a table that wasn't the most comfortable instead of where we wanted to sit (Because that table had been booked?!) Waste of time booking!

Secondly the lady serving us didn't really seem to like newcomers in the restaurant, and the starting service was very rushed with little time to look over the menu.
We shared a starter (Although I had none because I'm not a lover of duck) though the presentation was nice it's very English as your given a plate and forks.
we asked to swap them for the mains which they gladly did for us which was nice of them.

We ordered 5 dishes including the 5 spice chicken, I asked if it was hot and they told us yes... however it's really not! it comes out sizzling from being taken out of the oven or wherever it had been cooked but cools down very fast. It came to about £68 in total including two rounds of cola and a bottle of wine.

The upside to this restaurant was the service from the gentleman (He was Scottish) and very friendly showing us how to use chopsticks and chatting which added a warm and friendly atmosphere although the other staff let it down.

It does have toilet facilities and they are clean so that's a bonus. The décor is very minimal and out-dated... with oriental meets art décor which I don't get but hey.

Overall not too bad but I definitely wouldn't recommend this place nor would I return.

“For a Sunday evening in Ashbourne”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

Was rather amused to see another review mention the lack of places to eat in Ashbourne of a Sunday evening. I can agree with this totally and hence, having walked from one end of the town to the other, we ended up here. It certainly wasn't a mistake and we had a nice meal. The place was very busy (partly due perhaps to the lack of alternatives!) but they found us a table for which we were very grateful. As someone else here says, the decor leaves something to be desired but I went there to eat so don't mark them down for that. The service was good, with the food being prompt and tasty. It's not the best Chinese meal I ever had but was nice and I would recommend it.

“Good value”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

We arrived without a table booked and made very welcome ,we had a pleasant table. We had a set menu which was good value and had a nice selection of dishes. The staff were very polite and friendly. We were having trouble finding somewhere to eat, so it was really nice to find Dragon s nest and for it to be a good experience.
