“Food ok but service and atmosphere lets it down.”
Reviewed February 24, 2013 via mobile

Food ok - a few mistakes ( asked for jacket, got chips for one diner, asked for no chips and got a plate full for another) couldn't be bothered to ask to change as already had waited a while. No specials on menu - menu didn't have much choice and was uninspiring. Just basic pub food but the only saving grace was the homemade chips - they were delicious. The Sunday carvery may be better but wouldn't go for bar Meal again. Wasn't sure who were staff members or who were customers - quite a strange atmosphere.

“This is one not to miss”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

My wife and I decided to have a short break away from home even though we live on the Welsh border.
The reviews for this pub seemed really good but there was some negative ones which nearly put us off but in the end decided to give it a try and oh boy were glad we did.
It really is a welcoming place very clean warm friendly and the food was amazing with what I call proper chips yes home made.
Spent quite some time talking with the owners Sid and Jean and was very honest with them in that we nearly gave them a miss because of some of the negative feedbacks only to be told those incidents all took place under different management which then all became very clear.
So I recommend you give the Oakover a visit if your in the area you wont be disapointed.

“Brilliant Sunday Lunches”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

Excellent traditional Sunday lunch. Been three times and have always enjoyed the excellent food. This family run pub is brilliant, with friendly and attentive staff, a pleasant atmosphere and probably the best value for money in the area. I really hope the place continues to prosper and that the new team build a thriving business. Highly recommended.

“Reasonably priced quality meals in a traditional pub.”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We are a rambling group and enjoyed two reasonably priced quality meals at this traditional pub which looks as though it has been refurbished recently. We liked the atmosphere and the log-burning fires but for some of us, the choice of lagers was poor. We felt that they could have available at least Stella Artois, Kronenbourg 1664 or similar.
