Sandybrook Country Park
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 27, 2013

Sandybrook is a nice, friendly and welcoming lodge park on the outskirts of Ashbourne. It has a lovely swimming pool, mini golf, cosy restaurant, an indoor childrens play area (suitable for 0-18 months and 7-15) and an outdoor play area.

We stayed in a Riber Skyline lodge which was very modern and well equipped. The staff in all areas are pleasant and helpful, the park is well maintained and service is prompt and courteous.

There is no shop, and no bar area as such (there is a small bar in the corner of the restaurant - not quite the same). There is also no soft play area and the games room is extremely limited. In addition our water tank was faulty leaving us without hot water for half a day.

We also found that the older lodges at the bottom of the site were too close together impinging on our privacy. This wasn't helped by other "rude" residents who insisted on staring in at us as they passed each day.

Overall this is a lovely site but is more suitable in our opinion to couples and older families than younger families. Having a 3 year old we prefer Darwin Forest (the sister park).

Room Tip: Ask for a lodge in the new section of the site

We stayed here for a week at the start of February. The lodge was fantastic (number 23), not too far from facilities but far enough away, and ideal for the woodland walk which our dog loved. Due to the time of year, it was very quiet which was fantastic. We used the pool daily which was great, we also used the crazy golf (a bit windswept, but fun!) and the games room facilities were really good.
Lodge was really lovely, very clean with all you need.
We walked into Ashbourne a few times, it's a lovely town. Straight forward walk along the A515, about a mile, it's a busy road but there's a pavement the whole way. The walk there is easier than the walk back as there's a very steep hill back up, hard work but then we had a piece of cake back in our cosy lodge as a reward :)
We didn't eat in the restaurant onsite, but had a take away from there which was good.
We went for walks around Ilam and Carsington Water - both lovely. We did intend to walk around Dovedale too but only had £2.45 and you need £2.50 parking, but we'll definitely go back!
The only thing we weren't keen on was that our lodge was quite close to another one down below, so we overlooked them. It didn't bother us as that lodge was vacant, but I'm sure if it was occupied, they wouldn't have liked us looking down on them whilst we were washing up!
I'd definitely recommend Ashbourne and these lodges to anyone.

Stayed in Lodge 64 - absolutely awesome. Very cosy - heating on when we arrived, rooms were furnished extremely well and it was very comfortable. Flat screen modern TV's in the living room and master bedroom, great bathroom and shower, kitched packed with all the useful stuff including the old faithful dishwasher...

Used the on site restaurant on the first night and had great food then used our Jaquzzi which was brilliant and again modern.

The swimming pool on site was very nice and had a childs section which was useful for my son who I'm learning to swim.

Can't wait to come again - and it will be very soon.....

This s the second time I have visited sandybrook and I can honestly say it gets better each time. We stayed in lodge no 6 which is the most secluded 6 berth with hot tub. No one could see us hoping in and out of the hot tub! The facilities are great and well equipped and also spotless. The lodges are full of home comforts and we even managed to cook a roast for 6 ppl with ease. The restaurant is great with good staff and food and incredibly reasonable chateau neuf. The walk into Ashford is a nice distance and well worth it with lots of shops and cosy pubs. People are helpful and friendly and the swimming pool entertained us for hours.
I would recommends the walk at Dovedale, it was stunning.
The were three generations of our family and everyone was happy with sandybrook.
Only have one very small niggle which is that a light at the entrance to the lodges would make it easier to get in and out without falling down the steps.

Room Tip: Lodge 6 was very secluded. Book the hot tub, it really makes your holiday!

We stayed in the one bedroom elveston for 4 nights ,, when we arrived there was no hot water and the lodge was freezing , ( minus 2 outside ). We aren't ones to complain but later my husband took the dog for a walk and bumped into a warden . Asked how do we get hot water ? Within 5 mins the cavalry arrived ! Tried everything they could ! Realized there was a fault somewhere !moved us the next day without any disruption !! ( Brand new lodge ) Plus 3 bottles of the loveliest wine ! They really couldn't do enough ! We swam every day and used the lovely jacuzzi , thick snow everywhere but the leisure center was just right ! Lovely relaxing break !! Will be returning !!!

Room Tip: All lodges are lovely , we have a dog and it was immaculate !

As my title says - been coming here for 14years. Nothing would make me look elsewhere.

Just great. Staying as a couple, and always stay in lodge with sauna and jacuzzi. Quiet. Clean. Great facilities.

Have eaten in their coach house - again really good food.

Also really near Tissington walks which I recommend.

Don't worry about booking here. You WILL enjoy. Not looking forward to leaving tomorrow!! But then we will be back.
