“Good roast dinner, vegetarian option could be improved”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2011

Roast beef very good and good value.
The vegetarian option (same price): pancake with mushroom and stilton sauce, would have been more substantial served with veg (or at least to have given this as an option) rather than just serving it with salad.
Bailey's cheesecake only tasted very faintly of Baileys. It was just very bland.

“Fawlty Towers??”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2011

We sometimes call in here on our way back from a walk in The Peaks and are usually met with friendly staff, good service (though delays are frequent due to being busy), excellent food and lovely surroundings. On this occasion however we had to wait nearly an hour for our main course as it was "accidentally" given to another couple. We seemed to have been completely forgotten about and had to remind a waitress and the bar manager that we were still waiting a number of times. The pub at this time was not busy and this error may well not have happened if the inside tables were numbered and the staff didn't have to reply on a diagram behind the bar!

We found the bar manager abrupt at best (rude at worst!) when we justifiably complained (which we hate doing). To make matters worse, he had swiped a salt pot from our table earlier (which we had to source) to give to the couple eating our meal! We were "offered" free desserts after complaining, although I did have to ask for this concession and the bar manager was obviously resentful at having to do this. Whatever happened to the customer being right?

All in all, not a good experience and a bad end to what had been a delightful day. We won't be visiting here again for a long time and hope that, when we return, things have returned to how they used to be. I must point out though that most of the staff were pleasant.

“Decent food at a decent price,really nice staff.”

Arrived at 8p.m on a sunny evening without booking a table...the place was really busy with most tables inside and out full.
The staff were freindly and told us we might have to wait a while for our food.;
Our starter..YUMMY homemade pate arrived within 15 mins of ordering..waited about 20 mins after for our mains...the food was great,and the service was second to none....
really enjoyed it and was made to feel special...Definatley will go back again.

“Great food, great staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2011

We stumbled across this place whilst looking for somewhere to grab lunch. We had various baguettes amongst our group all of which were excellent. Whilst there we noticed other diners food which looked so good we decided to go back the following night and eat there. We had 3 courses, again all had various meals but all were faultless, the service was great and they made a special effort with our desserts which frankly wouldnt have looked out of place in a michelin star restaurant!

Excellent value for money with main courses at £8 and portion were huge.
