“Exceptional B&B. Real Quality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

Although a little off the beaten track, some 4 miles out of Workington, it's worth the effort. If you've ever wanted to know how it feels to live like a millionaire, this is the place to try.
Be warned, SatNav places this plot on the left of the road, but it's on the right coming out of Workington. Look for the large double gates.
Don't be put off by the grounds, which are still under development. Pass the stable block, with its own home and office building, and you come to the dwelling.
As soon as you walk in, you're aware of the care and expense from the owners, with gleaming floortiles over the expansive hallway, leading to a sweeping staircase to the bedrooms.
The owner and host, George, is a very amiable and informative host, who might even show you the private areas of the house, with its film-star kitchen and beautiful conservatory / orangery.
The bedrooms aren't numbered, but ours was spacious and immaculate, with a large en-suite with spa bath and powerful shower. Flat-screen Samsung TV and huge wardrobe available.
The versatile George presented an excellent breakfast, with a full range of items, including a first-class black pudding. He was always onhand to top up the tea and toast, and finally insisted on carrying our overnight bag to the car, despite the wild weather.
Just a flying visit from us, but we could definitely be tempted for a longer visit in the future.

Our good luck continues with another fantastic B&B experience. A last minute change in plans for our monthly trip to West Cumbria Photo Group presented the opportunity to stay at Cumberland Lodge. It looked too good to be true on the internet but was actually much better than the pictures showed. Whilst the accommodation was luxurious and the breakfast superb, the real joy was in the homely atmosphere created during our stay by the owners, Joan & George. We were made very welcome and put at ease from our first footstep into this amazing home and a welcoming cup of tea was on the table in the conservatory before we had our coats off. Our stay was very peaceful and quiet, just what we needed on this trip. This B&B is a children-free and pet-free zone. The facilities at Cumberland Lodge are second to none and are far superior to any other B&B's we have stayed at in the extended Workington area. There are great early morning views to the Lakeland hills as a bonus and close proximity to the West Coast towns. There are many restaurants close by for evening food, some within walking distance. Highly Recommended for luxury and price, friendly and homely.

I only stayed here the one night, but was made to feel at home by George and his wife from the off. This is by far the best B&B I have stayed in and when I return to Cumbria next year with my wife this is the place I will want us to stay. Luxury at an affordable price.

Room Tip: Book early as they are ingreat demand!

We only stayed 1 night, but would have been happy to stay about 2. The owners are so so friendly and welcoming - we were greeted with tea and biscuits on our arrival. The owners know the area well, so we got some recommendations of where to eat and go.

The rooms are so luxurious - such an experience to stay there! It's like you are in an old english mansion - only 3 guest rooms and all with en suite. Very clean, free wifi, satellite tv, all amenities. Beautiful grounds as well.

We went out for dinner to the nearest town and when we came back, we made our way into the living room where the owners and the other 2 guests were watching the euro cup and chatting away. We were offered wine, then they brought out yummy ham sandwiches. So generous! We had a nice chat with everyone there. It was really nice.

The next morning we had a full cooked breakfast. Excellent!

One of the best accommodations I've experienced - and very affordable. The only minus is the location - bit remote and in the middle of nowhere, but within a good distance from the lakes district.

Highly recommend!

Stayed at this B & B for only one night but would have been happy to stay the week. Accommodation is superior to any other B & B we have stayed at before. Breakfast is excellent and the property is well located for the coast and the lakes. Highly recommended. Friendly and homely.

Arrived on Saturday 2nd June ( the weekend of the Queen's Jubilee) early evening, and couldn't have had a warmer welcome from George and Joan. We stayed in the suite, which had stunning views on three sides and was very spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was luxurious. Breakfast the next morning was excellent. This is definitely the best B+B we've ever stayed in and can thoroughly recommend it.

Room Tip: we didn't see the other rooms but can thoroughly recommend the suite that we had
