Stayed here several times now while on business in the area.
The staff are really friendly and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The rooms are spotless and have been recently redecorated.
The bar is very cosy, lined with books that you can peruse at your leisure, or take back to your room. Definately the best place in Workington!
The bar food is pretty reasonable, and the restaurant food is very good, although a little on the pricey side.
The swimming pool is small, but a real bonus, and certainly needed after the fantastic breakfasts!
Only negative were the fresh flowers, which sadly drooped through my 4 night stay, and probably should have been destined for the compost by the end of the week!

Stayed one friday night, was given a nice size room, nothing outstanding within it..trouser press, tea/coffee, TV concealed in cabinet. You do get a small complimentary bottle of port, which was a nice touch.
There was even a turn down service, which was a suprise.
There is a pool which was a roman theme to it.
The staff were all pleasant and helpful.
We dined at a function in the evening, there was no choice of meal offered, but what did arrive was good enough and I can have no complaints about the food.
Probably the only frightening thing is the statue of a naked woman on a clam in the reception area. It needs to go!
And yes, the car park only has about 8 spaces and unless you reverse in, you'll have to reverse out.
I didn't make breakfast, as it finished at 9am, which was a little sharp for a Saturday, but the breakfast area is open to the public after this time, so you may meet some of the locals.
So if you want to stay right in the centre of the town, try here. There is a small bar right across the road and the shops are 2 minutes away.

I have stayed in this hotel almost every week for 4 months as I had to travel to Cumbria for business.

Advantages:

Hotel is the only one in the area to have a pool, saunas and gym;
There is a restaurant and the bar;
Sky Sport channel - advantage for sport fans
Clean bedding, many pillows
Good breakfast
Nice staff at the restaurant

Disadvantages:

Extremely dirty pool
Gym - very run down and small; usually only 1 out of 2 treadmills working with about 5 men lined up to use it.
Impossible to open a room as the mechanisms are very old.
No possibility to lock the door from the inside for the night (just the simple small latch, which opens with a harder push).
Usually no water pressure in the shower.
TV is one of the box style not flat screen, with about 3 not well tuned channels
TV is built into a cupboard in every room, which when opened leaves no space to pass through as rooms are so small.
Room temperature is not adjustable
Very expensive restaurant
Bar food is served at the tables that go up to your knees
No other restaurants in the walking distance
Very small parking
Very expensive rooms considering location and facilities
High charges for Wi-Fi which is only available in the lobby
Extrime charges for room service

Overall not a good experience
Often issues with payments due to constantly malfunctioning credit card machine.

This hotel is located right in the middle of the town and handy for shops, bars and restaurants. Although there is a excellent choice of food in the hotel. Quaint coffee shop, large bar area with snacks and a bit more and finally fine dining in the Charlton restaurant with rosette std food.

The rooms are well equiped if not some of them a bit small. Ask when you book for a larger room as they do exist. The leisure is great with large 20m pool and an area to relax with loungers and sauna/steam room/jacuzzi.

The main attraction to this hotel is its attention to detail for cleanliness, hospitality and a family run feel to it. No request is too much and Keith (manager) and Andrew (asst manager) look after you very well. You are not going to experience a larger international faceless hotel.

Booked with hotel direct following research on Tripadvisor. Got business discount rate for B&B. Hotel is right in the town centre so very handy for shops etc.
The car park for the hotel is tiny, with only around 10 or so places. It is barrier controlled and is right at the front of the hotel. I drove past it once and rang to confirm that this was the only car park which it turned out to be.
Check in was OK with front desk porter chap being very helpful and informative. He showed me my room which was clean and comfortable. The bathroom looked quite modern and bright.
The pool is 20m and when 6 or 7 people are in, it does become too busy in my opinion. The changing rooms are small too, but for the price of a B&B you do at least get the use of the liesure facilities.
Dinner is bar menu or restaurant menu. The price of the restaurant menu is guaranteed to make you choose bar menu!
The dinner staff seemed all new staf who were a little unsure at times. My food was OK, and I was happy to eat and go back to my room.
Breakfast was served by very happy efficient staff, who stand head and shoulders above the evening staff. Breakfast was plentifull and the toast machine actually produced nice brown toast ! Hats off - this is the first time ever at my many hotel stays where the toast machine doesn't regurgitate pale white bread!
Leaving the car park requires reversing skills which will be observed by everyone still sitting in the breakfast room. One has to reverse out and operate the barrier too.

I stayed here on business recently and was amazed by this great little hotel. Everything was spotlessly clean. The staff were fantastic - couldn't do enough for you and very cheerful. Breakfast and dinner in their restaurant were very good value for money - lovely, fresh, home-cooked food. Rooms, as another review says, are a little small but all the finishing touches easily make up for this. Didn't have time to use the pool and leisure facilities but they looked very good indeed. This hotel exceeded all my expectations and I would definitely recommend it for business or holiday stay with easy access to the northern lakes.

Washington Central Hotel is a quaint hotel in the town centre of Workington. The staff were very friendly and the hotel was nice and clean.
The rooms are a little small but are in keeping with the hotel, nice touches such as fluffly bathrobes in the rooms.
The pool area was nice and the pool is a good size, there is also a gym which had a good selection of machines.
Had a evening meal at the hotel, the food was ok but nothing special.
The only downside to this hotel is the lack of parking outside the hotel and i did not have a very pleasant breakfast as there was a few flies in my sugar and butter bowl.
However if i was in the area again i would stay at this hotel.
