Fiddleback Farm
Ranked #3 of 9 Wigton B&B and Inns

We have just stayed for one night at Fiddleback Farm in order to attend a party at the nearby pub. We found the place very easy to find; it is clearly signposted on the A595. We had to arrive in the morning and having emailed with the owners, that was not a problem at all, even if the room wasn't available at that point. Instead of us leaving our car at the pub (to enjoy a few drinks), we left it at the B&B and Lorraine very kindly took us to the pub - what service!
The room was lovely, clean and private with a separate lounge area for guests if required. On reading another comment, yes the air freshener was quite strong, but I would rather that than a stale smell - and it could be unplugged anyway.
Breakfast was really good and it was good to talk to the other guests who had been staying for 6 nights. The whole place has been very tastefully modernised whilst retaining the original characteristic features.
We have stayed in quite a few B&Bs and this is one of the very best.

I was looking forward to staying here as the pictures on the website looked lovely. We were staying in the area for a wedding. Check in is not until 5pm and although this is quite late for check in, it was fine for our needs.

The room itself was very nice, very cosy and clean. The breakfast was ok, nothing special but nice. The b & b is situated just off the A595, down a lane. It is basically in the middle of nowhere, so you definately need a car.

The problem with this b & b is the fact that there are "terms and conditions" (which are not highlighted to you at the point of booking) which state that you must leave the b&b between 11am and 5pm each day (even if you are staying there the next night)!!! The owner effectively "locks up" and boots you out of the house between these times. This was not convenient for us at all, as we had been at a wedding the whole day before and were looking forward to a lie in, so we were not best pleased when the owner banged on the door at 10.45 and told us to get out!!

The room is £60 per night and it is not acceptable that you are told to leave during the whole day. This is not normal for b & b's.The only indication of this rule is on a sign on the wall of the room, Had I been told of this rule at the point of booking I would have gone elsewhere. The owner (Ian Maycock) was also very very rude to me when he chucked us out in the pouring rain at 11am, (our car was at the wedding hotel from the previous day) and said "this is a b&b and not a hotel". Regardless, if you are paying £60 a night, you should be able to lie in for as long as you want (when you are staying for a further night!).

Other bad points are that your bed is not made every day and your towels are not changed (unless you ask for this). I have stayed at many b &b's and this is very unusual. There were also quite a lot of flys in the bathroom and I also saw 2 woodlouse in the bathroom (not sure where they were coming from), which was not nice at all.

Due to the behaviour of the owner, we left and did not stay for the third night as planned. I will be writing to the Cumbria tourist board to complain. DO NOT go here. There are other places in the area which look just as nice (e.g. the Sun Inn, Red Dial) which will probably give you far less hassle.

Overall- very, very disappointed with the way we were treated.

Beautiful house. Very unusual, really nicely done up.
But too many air fresheners (they bother my asthma). There is a train track close by but the walls of the house are so thick it isn't a problem.

Breakfast was Very nice! Good choice of what to have. Host was very amenable.

Had problems finding the place.

It cost us £84 for a family room which was pretty good value for money. Good stop over if travelling between Scotland and England. M6 about 12 miles away but through beautiful countryside.

I an sorry to hear of this complaint.

There is always two sides to any story.

Ours is we ask our guests vacate our property after breakfast, before 11am and return after 5pm.

This is because we operate as a B & B and our policy is clearly displayed within our rooms.

When reminded of this at 10.45am our guest although Scottish clearly had trouble reading English and did not want to except that she and her partner nad to vacate the room.

Our policy is clear to be seen and we were not going to be draged into a display of bad mouthing abuse.

They left with out paying there bill in full, all the doors wide open.

To sumerise, this is not the short of person we would wish to stay within our home.
