Description: This is a character listed property of over 400 year old that has recently undergone a major re-furbishment. With a new commercial kitchen, contemporary style furniture, restored original wooden flooring from the deck of a ship and hand painted murals, this is a family business of over 105 years old that is one, if not the oldest, in the Lake District. During the day, downstairs we are a fully licensed bistro style restaurant with traditional Italian style take away fish & chips. In the evening, by prior arrangement, we open to offer a private dining experience. We are not like the other restaurants in the area with a large busy bar. Our ambition is to remain very small and exclusive. We can cater for between 2 and 12 people each evening with the facility becoming yours. For larger parties, you have your own chief and waitress. We offer a standard menu but prefer to design a menu of seafood and steaks as you prefer. We offer a fine wine list, some beers and a selection of fine Scottish malt whiskey.

I was recently shopping in whitehaven with my mum and we decided to eat here as it was nice the last time we came, however it was very disappointing some of the chips wern't cooked some were even green, the burgers weren't very tasty and i don't know how they passed there food hygeine as they had a dog sitting right next to the food preperation area.
Don't think we will be going back anytime soon.

“Absolute disappointment”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

We ate here a few years ago while and were very impressed. We were on holiday nearby last week so made a special trip to this chip shop for what we thought would be another tasty fish and chips meal. How wrong we were and it would seem that this place has gone downhill. The chips had been warmed up and were hard and horrible. The fish batter was soggy and greasy. The mushy peas were an almost solid green blob, completely devoid of taste. And at 5 pounds each to sit at the counter, this was an expensive disappointment! We certainly won't be going back.
