“really good budget hotel”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

7 of us stayed here as part of a C2C2C cycle challenge, and found this to be an excellent budget Hotel that caters for cyclists with secure storage for the bikes and great banter with the breakfast waitress regarding our "healthy" options, shared bathrooms buts thats fine, clean comfortable rooms at a decent price, good bar, really helpful and friendly staff, its not the ritz but at the price its absolutely fine

We have stayed here for the past 2 Maritimes with family and used the hotel for other family events over the past 6 years and I cannot fault hoteliers Cheryl and Richard. They are amazing people, so kind and fun, loving life. They can't do enough for you.
The hotel is great, it's so quirky with its up and down floors. We love it because we appreciate a building with character :)
Food is spot on!! Breakfast is a belly filler!! And the bar is always busy with people full of stories to keep you up all night :)
It's right next to the marina so it's handy for a nice brisk walk to burn off the full Cumberland breakfast :)
We've booked 4 rooms for Maritime 2013.... Need we say more about the place?? :)
You stay one night as a customer you leave part of a whole new family...

We stayed here on the eve of our Coast to Coast Cycle ride in April. Conveniently located very near to the train station, and indeed the start of the ride at the harbour. Possibly slightly too conveniently located for the bars and pubs of Whitehaven on a weekend as it was rather noisy to be honest, but I imagine any centrally located hotel in the town would have the same problem - best to pack some earplugs! Having said that, we got a warm welcome and our bikes were welcomed into the hotel and securely stored in the rear courtyard. Water bottles etc happily filled up. Ok, its not a boutique hotel, as some reviews point out, its a bit dated, but we found it to be an adequate stopover hotel for our trip. No problems.

The Waverley Hotel is a reasonable place to stay but is nothing more than that. The staff are friendly but the hotel is tired and the rooms really need refurbishing to meet more modern standards. My dinner was nothing morethan okay however breakfast was very nice. For the price there are much nicer hotels in the area.

I stayed one night. It felt tired, with faded carpets and creaky floor boards. The hotel is clean enough (although my shower hadn't been cleaned out properly). They did a good breakfast in the morning and were friendly. That said, I was left waiting for quite a while to check in. Worth £50 a night anywhere else, not the £74 I was charged.

4 night stay as part of a walking group. Used this hotel for the last four years. Richard and Cheryl the owners do a great job in providing a warm welcome. The rooms are always clean, warm and well presented.

We ate here every night, you'd be hard pushed to get better value and quality anywhere in Whitehaven .

The bar is a welcoming place to have a few jars of an evening.
