Croft Hill Guest House is brighter, quieter, and very much cleaner than many hotels. We stayed in Room 4 (ensuite) and even though our special request was a great deal of trouble and for one night only, Joanne and Andrew complied with pleasure. Full, fresh English breakfast cooked on an AGA cooker, fire in the grate, brisk English countryside outside, and sheep and new lambs just yards away. Recommended to fellow Americans.

I stayed here as a single visitor for 3 months between September and December 2013 while working in the area.
The rooms in the guest house were in my opinion, such high quality it was like staying in 5 star accommodation.
Most of my stay was spent in the attic conversion which has an area just inside the door like a small kitchen, with a combination grill / microwave and sink and all dishes and cutlery, it was great to be able to cook my own food.
The room had an enormous double bed which was very comfy and every night I had a great sleep.it also had a well laid out and spacious en suite with a large shower which gave fantastic heat. the room had a nice desk and flat screen tv, and the guest house had free wifi throughout.
The hosts Andrew and Joanne were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble, they made me feel very welcome and also told me of great places to visit as I was there most weekends,
The rooms were mostly cleaned by Vicky and she was also the perfect host and a lovely lady and nice and chatty which again made me fell very welcome.
In front of the guest house in the front garden is the off road private car park which could easily hold six or seven cars.
If I was ever to work in the area again, then this house would be my first choice, Highly recommended.

Ian R

Room Tip: try and choose the attic conversion

As entertainers, we had a little job in Whitehaven, and picked the Croft Hill based on TripAdvisor reviews.
First impressions weren't great, with no signage confirming location, and with three carelessly parked cars taking up enough space for five cars. We had to park carefully just inside the property wall to make sure we blocked no-one.
The entrance porch area was a little disconcerting, and in need of an update (which we later learned was due).
There were no signs of life, and no response to the bell, so we headed back to the car to get the telephone number. Just then, we were spotted by a gentleman enjoying the beautiful sunshine in a nearby garden. (Andrew and Joanne had been delayed and took the trouble to introduce themselves a little later).
He was very helpful, and showed us to our room - Room 2. The advertised sea view wasn't immediately evident, but if you press your forehead to one of the windows and look left, there it is, glistening in the distance. Just don't expect to sit with your feet up, sipping your gin & tonic as you watch the squawking seagulls softly swooping over gently lapping waves. "Sea view" is technically correct, but conveys something of a stretch to semantics.
The room was very clean and spacious, with an extremely comfortable bed. Together with the peaceful location and the copious ventilation offered by two large windows, this made for a great night's sleep.
The size of the en-suite room and its shower was tight. There was nowhere to place your bits, and the shower cubicle was bijou, to say the least. Its water control was hitty-missy, with varying temperature spoiling a decent flow.
Breakfast was generous and very tasty. The home-made marmalade was excellent, and the hosts were very friendly and chatty.

Room Tip: Room 2 is a good 'un. If you like a fridge and sink, go for the slightly smaller attic room.

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting Woolfest in Cockermouth. Croft Hill is a lovely guest house and is in a lovely, quiet location with surrounding countryside.
We were welcomed by Andrew and shown to room 3, twin.
The room contained everything we needed and we only 'shared' the huge bathroom for 1 night with room 1 with no problems.
Breakfast was lovely, the guest lounge is comfortable and the gardens are well maintained and interesting just a shame the sun was not out to enjoy them. fully.
Joanne's mum & dad, brother & Vicky all made us very welcome.
Next time we will definitely stay in room 5 as we had a look at it before we left and it is stunning with sea views.

We have stayed at Andrew and Joanne's beautiful guest house several times and it is always an excellent experience. Their converted Georgian farmhouse set high up on the main route into Whitehaven is understated, decorated and kept to a very high standard. We have stayed in both the corner room on first floor (room 2) and the loft conversion which we love. It is easy to park, has free wi-fi and the gardens are immaculate.

Breakfast is plentiful and their commitment to quality, local ingredients is evident - from the freshest of eggs to the wonderful homemade preserves. The town and harbour are a short drive away, or a leisurely 20 min (downhill!) walk and you are right by the main road out to Cockermouth and Egremont.

They are lovely hosts, and have friendly helpful staff. Staying here is always a pleasure and my only complaint is that we don't have the time to come here more often.

Room Tip: We love the loft room, room 5, and the extra stairs to reach it are well worth it particularly if st...

We stayed here for one night at short notice owing to the poor weather forecast, rather than stay in an unheated caravan. We were a little apprehensive about the shared bathroom arrangement, however, as previous reviewers had identified, this was spacious, spotlessly clean and modern and caused no issues for us. Our room was more than adequate, very comfortable beds, clean and enjoyed the complimentary cupcakes with the refreshment tray. The walls are thin so we were disturbed by our neighbours coming in late however it didn't spoil our stay. Breakfast was lovely, (great bacon!) and served in the beautiful dining room. Owners very pleasant and helpful. Would recommend.

We stayed at this guest house as we are currently relocating to west lakes and needed a place to stay while we had a look at a few properties. It is in a great location, only a short drive from Whitehaven town centre and really easy to find. We did have a little bit of a problem with check-in which was easily rectified as it was my fault entirely for not requesting an earlier check-in time. The room we were allocated was decorated to a high standard and had everything in there that you would need for a short stay. Breakfast the next day was great and the service was excellent. I would recommend this guest house to any of our family who wish to stay and visit us in the future as we found it to be excellent value for money.

Thank You!!
