off the beaten track which is great, shallow edges so you can go paddling, loads of room to get out your picnic rug and if you take enough supplies you can stay all day! kids loved it just playing with their fishing nets, paddling, climbing the rocks !! j

We loved Wast Water lake and the dogs had a lovely swim. There is good parking but the lake it very difficult to get to with only two roads in/out

For 50 years I have been coming to visit Wastwater, this is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The area is away from the most popular lakes, but for the people who make the effort it rewards many times over. The walking is very special and views from Scafell stunning on the clearest of days, camping is available at wasdale head for those who want a longer stay or an early start on the hills. This is not a visit for people who like shops and tearooms,so leave your wallet and fetch a camera parking is free.

Walking round this lake is no country stroll! But it's fascinating picking a way through the rocks, and the views are to die for!

The views are stunning, the light changes all the time and I could sit and look at the view everyday without tiring
