I stayed here before embarking on the Cumbria Way. Brenda is a very welcoming hostess - warm and friendly but without being intrusive. She was happy to give advice on where to eat and where I could get supplies next morning to take with me for lunch en route. She offered to help me up the two flights of stairs with my rather heavy bag and rusksac, which was welcome.
I had single occupancy of a small double which was great for me. Probably a little snug if occupied by a couple. The room and en suite shower room were clean, warm and confortable. The shower was a little small and I didn't use it as it had a curtain rather than door or screen and, being claustrophobic, clingy shower curtains that attach themselves to you are a big no-no.
The breakfast was outstanding. I don't indulge in cooked breakfasts before a long walk so asked the previous evening if I could have porridge - no problem. The selection of mainly 100% fresh fruit was staggering. There were lychees on offer which was the only tinned fruit. There was a great array of croissants/pastries. Usually if you're not going for a cooked breakfast, whats on offer is predictable and not very inspiring - not here. Truly superb.
I'm unlikely to be in Ulverston again but would recommend this establishment to anyone. Its centrally located, not too far from the train station, handy for the Farmer's Arms which does great food and convenient to the start of the Cumbria Way.
