This is a really well done museum which brings to life what working in the bobbin mills of the Lake District would have been like. There are frequent guided tours with very knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. On the tour you got to see the full processes of making a bobbin and learn about how they would have been used. It was really good to see all the machines working and the guide actually make bobbins from the beginning.
This would be a good museum for kids - the guides were very good at getting the children in our tour group interested through props and relating what they would have been doing in the bobbin mill (at age 9) if they worked there.
We were fortunate to be there when the steam engine was running (which I think is only at busier times - this was a bank holiday) and it was very interesting to see.
Nice gift shop where you can buy bobbins.
Good price for this type of attraction with tour included - £6.40 per adult in the summer.
Overall a great half day activity for all ages and dogs are allowed in!
