A great beer selection, and the game pie and sausage pies were to die for, as were the scampi and the fish and chips, but we were slightly disappointed that the gravy seemed to come from a packet...

We had been disappointed that thus far in our holiday we had not come across what we would class a proper country pub so it was great to discover The Eagles Head on the route of the Force Falls walk in our Walks near Hawkshead book. We had a fab pub grub lunch of venison burger, ham egg and chips and classic burger and chips, yummy desserts and drinks all at a very reasonable price. The owners Simon and Emma (who only took over at the end of last year) were very friendly and welcoming. They have already carried out some renovations and have plans for the future too. The pub is quaint but not twee and is a typical country pub with a welcoming log burner. We stopped off for drinks after our trek too - it only seemed right! ;)

We stopped for lunch today whilst out on a walk and enjoyed a lovely lunch. A traditional pub with a modern cosy twist, and delicous food. Me and my husband both had the hot beef and gravy sandwich, and shared chips and onion rings. The food was well cooked and served promptly.
The only way it could have been better is if the chips and onion rings were homemade, but now I'm just being picky! Will certainly eat there again if we're nearby.
On a separate note they have high chairs (something we are always glad to find), and a sign outside says they welcome muddy dogs, walkers (muddy ones included, as that was our variety!) , families etc!

New management and wonderful food. Last time we came it was all a bit dated. Don't get me wrong the service was wonderful but it just needed something else. This time we ate here on the Friday and Saturday night and the food and service was faultless. It's just normal decent honest food with lovely down to earth normal service. But the wine menu has changed whooooooo! They have prosecco!!! Whooohoooo! That was the best surprise . Keep up the good work guys . Can't wait to come back xx

Driving to this pub really makes you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Once inside the pub, it has a fantastic atmosphere, and the feel of a proper, family run country pub. There is a good selection of local beers. My wife and I ate there, and both had the game and red wine pie, an excellent winter warmer after a long day's walking, plus the wonderful open fire was certainly welcome. I highly recommend this pub, partly because it seems to be off the beaten track and very good value, but mostly because it is a proper pub!
