I've always been a big fan of gillams as a vegetarian for over 15 years it was one of the best places to go for vegetarians in the lakes .
However after my latest visit I won't be going back. I took my two children here for some lunch, they are 2 and 6 months. When I arrived my son was asleep this is very unusual for him as he rarely naps during the day. When we sat down for lunch he began to cry (note it was not high pitch scream but a sort of whining) again this is very unusual for him. I ordered our lunch but he wouldn't settle so went and got him to sweets from there shop, he refused to eat them again usual!
He then refused to eat his lunch. I was then approached by the manager would told me he was too loud and upsetting the customers. I thought he was rather abrupt and had approached the situation in the completely wrong way! I told him I was not happy how he had spoke to me, he then went on to personally attack me and put it down to my parenting skills (never had my parenting ever been questioned! Just the week before at another restruant had said what a lovely family we were).
I was in shock, I never expected a manager of an establishment to speak to a customer in such a way, if I was really a bad parent when I'm sure my 6month old would be screaming. He was lucky I paid, I was very upset id spent £20 in there and now I've lost a good vegetarian place to eat!
I can only assume the manager though I was a young mum, when I told him I was 27 he reverted a little.
My husband rang to complain as I was obviously upset but he put it down to having a bad day, but he's still not apologised!
Interesting some of my husbands colleagues know him and we're shocked! I'll have to find another vegetarian established and I won't be going anywhere near ulceration again!
