Owner description: Now open in our new location. We have a vastly improved exhibition area for you to learn about the life and work of Stan Laurel, with many information boards, personal items and pictures to see. Our cinema area can accommodate around 30 people, showing films and documentaries all day. This is the first phase of our expansion plans with new things being added all the time. The Laurel and Hardy Museum in Ulverston began as the private collection of Bill Cubin, a lifelong fan. Now being run by his grandson, we hope to entertain and inform you about the worlds' best loved double act. New display recently opened. The museum began life as private collection, a wonderful jumble of memorabilia. Our new display attempts to recreate that feeling. A small room packed to the gills with pictures, statues, mugs, records, anything and everything to do with The Boys.

Really enjoyed looking round, especially loved the fact you can sit and watch the films. Would defiantly recommend anybody interested in old movies to come here, really enjoyed it.

“our visit to the Laurel and Hardy museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2014

we have spent a lovely weekend in the lake district and the highlight was our visit to the Laurel and Hardy Museum although a work in progress i urge all visitors to take a look. I have not laughed so much for a long time i did not realise how funny these characters were we were honoured to be shown a couple of their routines.
We then had a chat with the grandson of Bill Cubin, Mark what a lovely person he was telling us he has many plans for the space so we will be keeping up with his progress please support this national treasure, so Mark can continue his work even the children would love this thankyou mark for your hospitality Friday afternoon Cathy and John holland 4th april 2014

“worth a visit - has great potential for the future”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2014

took my husband here on our trip around the lakes - what is so good is the enthusiasm of the owner - yes, the place can feel a bit drab in places, but I can see that if it continues in this old cinema and gets visitors it can only improve - cost £3.50 for concessions - loved sitting in the old cinema seats and watching films of L & H - so much better than seeing them on a tv screen - can imagine that in the summer when it was warmer families could spend a few hours in here together enjoying themselves - if you loved old L & H films this is a 'must' to visit - you can get a coffee, drink, popcorn while you watch the film - had it not been so cold we'd have stayed a lot longer - we wish the owner every success with this place :)

“Value for money. Go recharge your gigglebox.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2014

Most family run businesses tend to be founded on passion. It's better when there's a history of such passion. We encountered this today. Yes, it's not slick, But that's part of the charm. It's a quintessential English experience (with a slight American twang). You'll discover that one of the 20th Century's movie stars was born in Ulverston and that indeed, some of the things on show may well have been used by him but most certainly were obtained from his family home.

Sit back, relax and watch as many L&H movies as you can. Forget the pace and just recharge your soul. They're silly, they're scratchy and they're lovely.

Did you know Stan Laurel was Charlie Chaplins understudy? Lot's to learn.

Well worth the £4.50 entry fee.

“On Your Laurels”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2014

There is so much that could be done with this museum but at the present time - summer 2013 - it is in need of brightening up. There is a wealth of memorabilia on display but the attraction is somewhat dismal and needs to 'smile'. Perhaps the cinema showing non-stop Laurel and Hardy films should be in a separate darkened room whilst the main body of the exhibition should be in a well lit area. It needs investment.
