“Friendly, welcoming, warm atmosphere! We'll definitely be back!”

We are a family of four: Japanese Wife, Fumiko (age: n.a.), Italian Husband , Alberto (age: 50 ys. old) and two children aged 10 and 14. We live in Florence, Italy.
We stayed at the Church Walk House four nights, i.e. from the 9th August 2011 to13th August 2011. We stayed in 1 room with double bed + another room with twin beds.
It is "The perfect B & B Accommodation": first of all, we felt at home, thanks to the friendly, welcoming, warm atmosphere provided by our two hosts!
We thank them for little chats, and for their help and assistance to solve our tourists' problems. And they cook such a yummy breakfast!
We were sorry we had have to leave. And Fumiko brought back home photos of their beautiful antique English chairs.
We loved the furniture and fittings! And the antique English decorated dishes displayed in the cabinet, and the Teddy Bears that gladdened us in the breakfast hall.
Our children liked finding a book-case with several children's books upstairs, in the common space between our two rooms.
We enjoyed our stay at this B&B very, very, very much: it was the best part of our 15-day English holiday (just before staying at this B&B we had stayed 4 nights at a nice hotel in London, in an affordable 2-room family suite, and after this B&B we stayed at a very nice and comfortable self catering accommodation in the Lake District).
We'll definitely be back!'. It is one of the B & B's the UK can be proud of.

We stayed for 1 night as our starting point for our walking tour of the Cumbria Way. Great location in the middle of the town centre. Our host Martin was brilliant and very helpful with little tips and anecdotes about the town and the walk. Recommended a short stroll to the viewing point above town and despite the wet and windy conditions, there was indeed a great view of all the surrounding area!

Had a very comfortable stay and sleep prior to all the physical exertions of the walk the next day. Martin cooks a real mean breakfast artist too! Fuel for the walk was very much appreciated! :)

Parking was easy and free off street. Safe too as our car was still there and untouched after our week long walk.

Highly recommended and rated far too low on Tripadvisor in our opinion!

I have travelled extensively for the last 25 years, trekking, adventure travels, and many leisure vacations, thus staying from hotels to B&Bs. I had never been to the Lake District before but after searching for a B&B to stay at, I fell upon the Church Walk House. WHAT A FIND ! This historical house dating from the (i believe) 17th century is beautifully restored and best of all, centrally located in the great town of Ulverston. Minutes away from anything you need: restaurants, shops, parks, theater and the Coronation Hall (great acoustics) where I attended 2 performances during their festival week at the beginning of June.
Church Walk House owners, John and Martin were very friendly and helpful. Warm reception and provided me with all the information I needed to make my short stay one to remember. The rooms were well appointed, clean and very comfortable. Peacefully quiet is the qualification I would give them since sleep is important to me (and I'm sure to everyone) and there was no problem there. The comfort and quietness of the rooms provided the perfect venue for rest and relaxation. Breakfast was excellent and hearty. I was to stay 2 days but extended to a week. I definitely would return.

Last year we stayed for just two nights but liked it so much that this year we stayed for five. Between our two visits we had been to France, Belgium, Germany, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Switzerland and Greece and consequently had had much experience of hotels and B&Bs! Of all the B&Bs we've stayed in over the year, Church Walk House comes top of our list for the friendlliness and helpfulness of our hosts, for the excellence of our breakfasts, for the charm of the beautifully restored listed building, and for the comfort of our room on the second floor which partially overlooked the delightful walled garden. Although very near to the middle of the town, we were not disturbed by traffic noise, even with the window open at night. With the shops, pubs. and concert hall within a five minute walk from the House, we could not have been more conveniently located.

Having read the reviews on here we were disappointed in this B&B. It did not start well as the host was an hour and a half late on our arranged time of arival so we had to wait in the pub nearby until he arrived. Even then although he had our mobile number we had to call him to find out if he had returned. Even tho it was a hospital appointment and he apologised it still could have been managed better. If we had not booked luggage transfer we probably would not have waited. The room was Ok but it was on the man road and only had badly fitted shutters and no curtains, Breakfasr was average. Probably best summed up by the local information brochure in the bedroom which was 3 years out of date.

Was staying here before starting the Cumbria Way the next morning. Location was great, just 2 minutes walk from the town centre, pubs, shops and restaurants. Our host was very friendly and provided good info about Ulverston and the walk itself. Rooms were clean and comfy. Probably the highlight was the breakfast - delicious. Overall I would very much recommend.

David.

What a gorgeous house with equally wonderful hosts!! They were so helpful and friendly - leaving you to your privacy but being available to ask questions etc... My young nephews and whole extended family were made to feel so incredibly welcome - a truly lovely experience!!
The rooms were very clean and furnished with old, good quality furniture in keeping with the house. Couldn't recommend them highly enough! There was a slight mis-communication when we booked, but they more than made up for it!
Thank you!
