Stayed here for 4 nights over the Jubilee week-end. Have eaten here many times and never been disappointed. Lovely room, comfy bed, and settee to watch the telly. Pat and her team were very busy in the restaurant over this period, but it didn't detract from the quality of the food, or the range of food on offer. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The chef does a very good steak, and not small portions either! Watched the beacons being lit on Monday night over Binsey and towards Skiddaw and across the Solway, and lovely sunset to end the day. After that the weather went downhill, but not my stay at this village Inn. Uldale is a quiet place with Caldbeck and Ireby nearby, with some nice walks not far away. If you want to go shopping on a rainy day Carlisle is only about 20 mins away. Thanks Pat for a very enjoyable stay.

We simply love The Snooty Fox, and we return to it each time we visit the Lake District. Staying up the road from Uldale, we find this pub truly to be our "local" while on holiday. The food is excellent and up to gastropub standards without being pretentious, and the proprietor and staff are very welcoming and fun to chat with. For a relaxing pint and a highly satisfying meal in a warm and comfortable place, you won't find much better. It is definitely a bit off the main roads, but well worth the side trip.

12th Sept 2011 ~ 1st impressions entering the carpark unsure, but the restaurant and food are really good and the service was excellent the 2 ladies behind the bar were very friendly, the beer Thirst Quencher by the Keswick brewery co was superb @ £2.80 a pint

we learned are lesson and just had the main course, one pork belly and one lamb shoulder both were again superb at decent value at just under 35 pounds inc 3 beers on the bill

worth the drive especially if your local to Bassenthwaite

We ate here last Friday night. (did'nt stay here) We found the pub to very clean, tidy and very welcolming. The staff were very friendly and polite, and nothing was too much trouble, even when we asked for more tomato sauce for the kids. The food was fantastic! Great home cooked food and REAL HOMEMADE CHIPS!! Large portions, so please leave room for dessert as these were out of this world!!! Top marks to the Chef and Landlady, We will deffinatly be back for more. Exellent!!

I have just had the pleasure of staying in Uldale for a week and the Snooty Fox quickly became our local as we were staying in a cottage 400m away. This place is a real gem, great food, great ale, great staff and a really good craic with the locals. Pat and Mark run this place with pride and passion and I really can not understand the bad reviews further down the page. Mark the Chef is a local lad from the village and prepares everything him self, fresh, which means you have to wait a little but it is well worth it. The beef and lamb suppliers can be found in the public bar most nights, so if you have a problem with your steak, go and speak to the farmer who reared it. Everything we ate there was absolutley A1 and quite frankly good value for money. Its not cheap, but you get what you pay for. If you plan on going Friday or Saturday night, you need to book otherwise you won't get a seat . Cant praise the place and Pat and Mark highly enough. Just wish they were a 140 miles closer to home. Two other things, they are only open in the evening from 6.30 and Wednesday is Marks night off so they don't do food on a Wednesday.

We were staying locally near Ireby and had dinner at the Snooty Fox after a recommendation. Starters were exceptional and the mains were great too. A good selection of Cumbrian real ales on offer. The Yates Bees Knees was lovely. Staff were attentive and efficient and very friendly. A very enjoyable experience indeed.
