Just a stone's-throw from Bassenthwaite Lake is in a beautiful quiet corner of the Lakes. The cottage is very tastefully & thoughtfully decorated, and is well equipped. We availed ourselves of the 'English Breakfast' and 'BBQ' packs. We relaxed immediately.
We’ve recently returned from a lovely break at Groom's Cottage in Uldale. This delightful cottage is in the middle of beautiful countryside, surrounded by fields. The garden is a real suntrap and the trees are just full of chirping birds! The cottage owner, Debs, offers a variety of extras that can be ordered in advance so we ordered the BBQ pack. Luckily the sun shone on our first night so we had a great BBQ in the sunny garden. By the third night the weather had turned but we were very happy to sit by the cosy log burner in the lounge. The cottage has recently been renovated to a very high standard. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need for a short break and even comes complete with home baking, courtesy of Debs! We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Grooms Cottage and can’t wait to return.
We arrived to stay for the weekend in the middle of our UK roadtrip. It was the perfect place for a break and to re-charge the batteries. The cottage was beautifully kitted out and absolutely nothing was missing. We ordered some food before arrival which was waiting in the fridge and also complimentary goodies were waiting too, all very good food. The cottage is on a farm so don't be put off by the farm noises and smells. The local pub is good (fab local beer all around the area, especially in the pub in Hesket Newmarket) and the tea room room is good too. It offers a perfect base to explore the northern part of the lake district with its beautiful views and walks. Do go down the local lanes which open up views off the beaten track. Debs the owner was extremely helpful. A wonderful stay in a beautiful spot.
We wanted a modern place in a quiet and beautiful area of the Lake District, and Grooms Cottage fit this criteria perfectly.
The pictures do not do it justice! Whilst it is a small place, it's very cosy and big enough for two people. The garden is quite big, and full of chirping birds.
The area is very, very quiet, apart from the odd cow mooing and a tractor going past. Phone service was limited (as can be expected in the Lakes!), but the WiFi of the cottage was amazing!
There is everything you could need, including a comfortable bed, great kitchen with modern appliances, and a modern wet room. The shower was slightly difficult to use, as there is no door and the water travels on the floor.
One highlight was the gorgeous cake and bread that greeted us when we arrived! Both were wonderful and delicious, and it added a personal touch to Grooms Cottage.
Ultimately this place is wonderful, and we would definitely love to stay again! Thank you for having us!!
For anybody looking for a lovely quiet weekend away, this cottage is the perfect choice.
The location is quiet and remote with lovely scenery and a number of nice walks in the immediate vicinity.
The pictures of the cottage are a perfect illustration of the cosy and warm environment that's provided. The cottage is extremely well furnished and we found everything that we needed was available during our stay.
Check in and check out was extremely easy and the cottage was very clean upon arrival. Overall this was the perfect long weekend and we would definitely return.
After trawling through a million cottages on various sites we came across this hidden gem, and spent a very cozy and relaxing New Year there. Situated in a quiet courtyard shared with a couple of other small properties, just off a small country by-road, we found the cottage to be immaculately presented and extremely well equipped. The bedroom in particular is stunning, with a bespoke wooden bed, shelving and wardrobe/dressing table making the best possible use of the intimate proportions of the room. The lounge has a great little woodburner and the owners are happy for you to adjust the central heating to suit you (unlike a lot of places where it's pre-set and unchangeable making for cold afternoons when you decide to have a lazy day!) There's a gorgeous wee garden out the back, t'was a bit cold to make use of it while we were there but it'd be lovely in the summer, and great to have that extra space. It does back onto a working farm so there were some choice smells from time to time but this is definitely to be expected in the country! Kitchen is also beautiful and very well designed, ditto the bathroom. Ideally located for exploring the northern Lakes, a really nice pootle down to Keswick which has loads of little streets and independent shops to explore, and the cottage has a great information pack including everything from recommended shops, pubs, spas, walks, great if you're not already familiar with the area. All in all an absolutely ideal hideaway for a romantic week or weekend, with very responsive, considerate and accommodating owners - we're already planning a return visit.
