“New to camping - Perfect Site and friendly people”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in July during the most gorgeous weather!! We haven’t been camping for year and though we would give it a go.

THE PLACE - Spotlessly clean, staff always cleaning toilets and shower areas. Secured by barriers (only downside to this, no one gets out before 7am or in after 11pm). Very quiet even though we were at the very beginning of the site. The plot itself, the grass was so hard that not even a hammer would push the pegs in (maybe we just got a bad pitch). The people were all very friendly. The pub onsite was nice although we only went once, and we missed the food (stop serving at 9pm), the owner even let us get a pizza takeaway and eat it in the pub as we had missed food. Lots of leaflets for different excursions around the lakes.

THE PLACE – Down a long private road, nice and secure, nowhere near main roads. Felt very safe! Although IT IS NOT IN WINDERMERE so don’t be fooled by the name of the site. Very sharp turn to site from main road, we missed it the first time.

Overall a very good experience and would definitely go again if we wanted to be a little bit further our and using it as our base to travel to different places around the lakes.

Room Tip: Make sure your pitch is very green, otherwise the pegs won't go in the grass!!

Just back from 2 night stay at this park wonderful surroundings extremely friendly staff that give you excellent service which is very personal. Very clean well run park. My only criticism is the playground as its basically non existent. But saying that my children are getting older. A lovely 30 min walk through the field's to staveley where you can find couple of pubs, a well stocked spar shop, a butchers ,a chippy and a postoffice. The brewery bar is a great find tucked away behind the spar shop we spent hours sat outside chatting and making new friends. All in all a fantastic weekend was had and cannot wait to return.

This is a great site and despite the previous review I believe it is child friendly. I note that the previous review mentioned her child of 6 not being able to access the toliets alone and also that the childs play area was not supervised. SORRY, but that's your responsibility not the Sites. Children as young as 6 should NOT be allowed to be unsupervised and I can only guess that the dogs (referred to by the previous reviewer where properly held on a leash, like responsible owners do!)
Just for the record I don't have a dog but usually see loads of them on sites but never had any problems with them. If only this could be said for the children. Now I don't blame the kids but I do blame the parents because there are too many times when kids are left to run riot and that (I believe ) was a reason for the high locks on the toilet block. Sadly these have now been changed back.
Now for those of you siding with the parents, Yes we do go to adult only sites and enjoy them but I love this particular site because you can get a pint of Colly Wobbles in The Whistling Pig (on site) and this is brewed at the Watermill in Ings, another great pub three mile down the road. You can walk into Staveley in 25 minutes and have a brilliant pint at the Eagle & Child (one of the best pubs in Cumbria) and you can walk a further 5 minutes and have a few drinks in the Hawkshead Brewery. All of these premises allow Children with responsible adults................ Now there's a thought!!

Room Tip: You can get a map of the route to Staveley by donating any amount to the site's flower fund

We stayed here during that glorious warm spell in july. We enjoyed the walk into Staveley which had a variety of shops and a brewery which also served meals. The walk along Ashes Lane gives lovely views of the local fells. Staff were really helpful and the toilet block was always very clean. We went to The Whistling Pig one evening and found the food very good and they serve an excellent pint of Wainwrights. We travel to sites with friends a few times a year and will definately be recommending this site.

We stayed for a week in the campsite but lets start with the positives. The staff was friendly. the park was well kept and the toilets were clean and nice. Now the negatives: the site is called Windermere but beware as its not close to Windermere, there is nothing to do once you are outside, there is one road access which leads to a extremely busy road which its dangerous for families with kids and pushbikes. There is another road which is less busier but, again its ok if you are mountain biking solo, not good with kids. There is a children's play area which is not at all child friendly. Just a couple of swings and a nice hazardous area where youngster can risk their lives and have loads of fun avoiding sharp items.
So, will I stay there again: No, too far from anything.

well run site, although a larger site it is split into seperate areas so doent appear to be too big. acces is down a narrow lane which could put people off but with larger units, but seems to cope with plenty of passing places. needs care so as not to miss the turning off the main road, the junction is signposted but not visible until right on top of it.

Found this place rather grim- dominated by a crowd in the bar who seemed to treat the place like their own personal fiefdom. Ruined the enjoyment for us, so we didn't hang around.

It's nowhere near Windermere and in our experience there are much nicer parks around the area with a nicer atmosphere and outlook.

Not particularly friendly, but I guess that's because we're outsiders, far too cliquey for us. Service was poor. Toilets & showers ok.
