“Birthday Meal with Family”
Reviewed August 7, 2014

Great place for a family meal with very friendly staff and a good, varied selection of food and beers (some of which are supplied by the very local Hawkshead brewery) / cider on tap.

Very accommodating of requirements for 2 young children (6 & 4) as well as allowing dogs too.

Has we been spending more time in the area, would definitely have encouraged a repeat visit

“Reliable Pub Food with atmosphere”
Reviewed July 29, 2014

We visit Staveley about once a year and always go to the Eagle & Child a couple of times. We have never had to book but always (just) get in. Its always busy until about 8.00 with diners but seems to quieten down later. We usually sit in side which is full of character but there is a large nice garden across the road and by the river. Lots of young friendly staff always on hand to give good service. This is good pub food not top cuisine. Fair value but not cheap (watch out you have to pay for veg extra). Order at the bar but food always seems to come quite promptly. Fair menu selection which is all tasty and comes well cooked. What I like best is that there is always a bit of a buzz about. My one point for improvement is that its now time just to smarten up the decoration. Its by no means scruffy but not much has changed over three years. Good selection of beers. Overall an ideal food stop after a days walking in the lake district.

“Good beer choice, food OK”
Reviewed July 29, 2014

Called in to the Eagle & Child for evening meal on busy Saturday, good choice of beers and wide range of food choice on the menu, we ordered and sat down for the starter of fishcakes which were enjoyable and tasty then after about 5 minutes of the starter being cleared away we were then informed that they'd run out of the pie - why we couldn't have been informed of this on ordering I'm not too sure, the replacement arrived quickly and was OK. Good choice of local ales on offer.

“Worth a trip of the A591”
Reviewed July 27, 2014

Having been last year on our annual trip up to Windermere, and struggled to get a table, we decided to book in advance this year and were glad we did. Due to the excellent choice in real ales we (I) always try and get here early, just to have a sample! I was not disappointed. Back to the food, as always there was a comprehensive specials board, and not to mention the menu, something for everybody from traditional pub grub like gammon and eggs to lamb tagine. As the food is cooked fresh there is a wait, but it only gives you additional time to try another brew. When it does arrive, the service is good and the food tasty, what more do you need after a hard day slogging around the fells. A must visit if in the area.
