Literally a stone's throw from the St. Bees rail station, Stonehouse Farm was the first house I saw when I got into town, impossible to miss. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. I had previously informed them that I would probably arrive in the late afternoon, but I arrived a bit early and Mrs. Smith saw me at the door and alerted her husband that I was here.

I had booked a single room which was in an extremely cozy corner of the top floor, with a window that gave me a view of the street, and the en-suite bathroom was very clean and well stocked with soap and towels. After showing me my room, Mr. Smith also gave me a Sherpa Van luggage tag, which was very convenient as there would be no confusion with their bag pickup service in the morning.

Breakfast was delicious and filling, a great way to start the day for the long walk ahead. Some of the other folks at breakfast were locals whose homes got flooded by the storm the previous night; clearly they knew the right place to stay in St. Bees!

Stone House Farm is a B&B in Cumbria. You can stay there, sleep well, eat a good breakfast and if you are really smart do the first half of the first day's walk on your first day and return to the B&B. The next day you only have to start at Sandith and walk to Ennerdale.
The owner Carol will give you all the information you need.

The accommodation is comfortable and quirky.

Room Tip: If you are tall ask for a room that doesn't have low beams.

We stayed one night in this B & B starting the Coast to Coast walk.

The small white building is traditional local, the cosy rooms are clean, spacious, and well furnished, with a nice welcome from the landlady.

Location is excellent, meters from the railway station.

Try room number 5.

Breakfast is better than standard (we tasted a lot).
