Literally a stone's throw from the St. Bees rail station, Stonehouse Farm was the first house I saw when I got into town, impossible to miss. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. I had previously informed them that I would probably arrive in the late afternoon, but I arrived a bit early and Mrs. Smith saw me at the door and alerted her husband that I was here.
I had booked a single room which was in an extremely cozy corner of the top floor, with a window that gave me a view of the street, and the en-suite bathroom was very clean and well stocked with soap and towels. After showing me my room, Mr. Smith also gave me a Sherpa Van luggage tag, which was very convenient as there would be no confusion with their bag pickup service in the morning.
Breakfast was delicious and filling, a great way to start the day for the long walk ahead. Some of the other folks at breakfast were locals whose homes got flooded by the storm the previous night; clearly they knew the right place to stay in St. Bees!More
