This place was perfect. It's family run and it's very clear they take a lot of pride in creating a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The rooms were spacious and bright, with high ceilings and comfy beds. The little bar was cozy and welcoming. The breakfast was great. The price was incredible value - they could be charging a lot more for their rooms. One of my favourite stays in England.

Hello Erika C,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our accommodation. We are so happy that you enjoyed the building, and we are happy you used the new bar.

We try to keep the overall price as low as possible and to cater for all needs, from camping to dormitory to bed & breakfast. We pride ourselves in keeping it local as possible with alot of our food and drink coming from local producers.

Hope to see you again soon

This was great stop on the coast to coast walk. Jamie was a really good host , with a warm welcome and good food. A most comfortable stay and a really friendly atmosphere. Rooms light and airy- no ensuite but good facilities. Eat here on an evening and mix with other walkers, it has a really nice feel about the place

A really nice and very different place to stay. Rooms are really nice, very large. They have a nice bar stocked with local beers. Our veggie meals (chill) were huge and very good, same with breakfast. Outside there were chickens and campers, the place just had a great vibe, try it.

We stayed there on the coast to coast walk and met other like minded walkers...very sociable everybody eats together, lovely log burner lounge area a nice little bar that serves wine or beer - what else do you need? My advice would be to book your evening meal ahead here as the pub is ok but a bit of a walk down the main street. Surely much better to eat and socialise here...it's a bit like going round to a friends for supper!

Room Tip: If you're two females we had a nice twin next to ladies bathroon on 2nd floor

This was our first rest stop on the Coast to Coast trail. We loved it here! Felt like home. Jamie and Scott were relaxed, friendly hosts and truly made us feel like their place was our place, telling us what was going on locally and even letting us take Tia (their dog) for a walk. Our rooms were clean, fresh, comfortable and spacious. There is a cozy bar and a comfortable sitting room with a big fireplace and extensive book and games selections. The dining room was invitingly decorated and had a huge Coast to Coast map covering one wall and a local food map showing where the meals are sourced. We had dinner and breakfast and the food was really delicious and plentiful. Would love to stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the B&B facilities in the main lodge, first floor. The rooms were spacious and ver...

This place has a great vibe to it and is run in a relaxed way that makes you feel the same way. Comfortable rooms with views onto the free range chickens. Welcoming fire and front room that feels like it could be yours. Big communal table for a large meal of chicken and bacon pie with loads of extra new potatos. Long days walk to get here but definately worth a visit.

I stayed here with a group of friends while on the coast to coast. We arrived quite late after the long trek from Patterdale very wet and tired. We were advised that the kitchen had closed and it was too late for meals in the local pub. All they could offer was beans on toast! There are no drying facilities and all the wet boots from the guests were in front of the fire in the lounge. In the dormitories everyone was hanging their wet clothes wherever they could and it was impossible to dry anything. The mattresses on the bunks were covered in plastic and the sheets looked like they had come from charity shops. The lodge was fully booked and as such was overcrowded. Room 6 is too small for 6 people in 3 bunks. There is not enough room to move around and no where to sit.A decent breakfast was served but at £25 we felt ripped off. This is not a place I will be returning to.

Room Tip: Go for the en-suite with crisp white sheets.

Hello DawnAccrington,

We are glad that you enjoyed our breakfast and that you chose to stay with ourselves on Wainwrights Coast to Coast Walk.

I have a few niggles about your review which i need to address;

Our kitchen takes orders till 6:30pm and does an evening sitting for people who require. We are only a small business there is myself and my brother who do most of the work with a small number of part time staff, so we are unable to do meals throughout the evening. There is however a small basic dormitory kitchen for your use. There is also a co-op store, chip shop and two pubs in the village . We feel that beans on toast is a fast and effective way of making sure that you have the carbohydrates that your body requires to refuel from your days strenuous activity.

There is drying facilities we have a dedicated boiler room (new for this year) where you are able to put your clothes and fingers crossed they will be dry for the morning. We feel that putting boots round the fire is an effective way of drying them out and also using the old newspaper to stuff them works very well.

The Mattresses are new and yes they are covered with a protective plastic to make them last longer. The 6 bedded dorm room is by no way a small room and we have made sure that there is plenty of space, even installing under bunk storage. We have estimated that we could fit at least another 2 dorm bunks in (thats another 4 people) but we dont want to overcrowd things so we have refrianed from doing so.

The lodge being full is especially funny comment as we are running a business and as such yes it will be busy at times. Now seating, there is plenty of seating in our bar (enough for 10) our lounge (enough for another 10) and our dinning room (enough for 20).

We are very sorry that you didnt enjoy your stay, but we do put everything into our business and find it very frustrating when people do not apreciate what it is that we are trying to do to help them on there way.

We do hope that you will think of us for your next visit to the Eden Valley, and we hope that you enjoyed the rest of your walk.
