“Great country pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2013

This place is just great. I can't remember being anywhere so quiet at night and I don't mean lack of entertainment. Located in the Lakes District the Inn is run by very friendly hosts and nothing is too much trouble. Meals are fantastic and you are told to treat your place as your own. We had drinks before dinner each night and even though we were only there for 2 nights the locals made us feel apart of conversations and were very friendly.
The room had everything you needed - we were in room 14 - large bed, huge bathroom with soaker bath and separate shower.
If you are a walker this place is great for you but even if you are not, short drives away are the lakes and wonderful scenery.
I recommend this place to anyone and if/when we return to the UK we will definitely have this on our must stay again place.

Room Tip: Room 14 is right at the end of the hotel and very quiet

Lovely little hide away in an idyllic area of the lake district. Faultless service and brilliant selection of beers. Only downfall is the lack of shower pressure but this is easily overlooked, would definitely stay again.

The Strands Inn is a rather quaint and very homely place where the eclectic features and styles actually combine rather well to make this the most charming of places. At the beginning of February, we have stayed here for the past two years for a couple of nights as a pre-cursor for our annual sojourn to the mountains of Scotland.

The owners, Mark and Lesley have made their hostelry warm, friendly and welcoming. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the multi-talented Mark, chef, brewer and accordian player!

The beer of which there are always seven brews on tap is of remarkable quality given that it is brewed on site. The food is simple but the quality is superb with everything made from the freshest ingrediants and we echo all the comments about the fantastic breakfasts.

The Strands Inn is very handily placed for Scaffell Pike and many other walks and returning to a warm fire, several beers and hearty food after a day in the hills is what this place is all about. We look forward to returning again next year.

The food and beer in this place are top class....and the beer is reasonably priced too..very friendly staff. Ideal place to start walks from knowing you are coming back to a good beer or three....We will defineilty be going back some time soon.

7 of us stayed here as a base to climb Scafell Pikes. The people here are so friendly and helpful, food is really great and their beer is good and not too expensive. Although it is not perfect in regards to decor the rooms are more than adequate, the place is lovely and clean with loads of hot water, important after a day climbing and walking.
Start the day with a really good breakfast, there is loads of it, well cooked and hot, it will set you up for the day and on your return stay for your evening meal, you won't regret it. We have tried loads of places in the Lakes, some good, some not so good, I suspect we will return to this one!

Excellent food served quickly, best cooked veg ever. Six own beers on hand pump and more in bottles. Log fire, good atmosphere and a mile from cottages to rent at woodhow farm.
