“Friendly and comfortable place to stay”
Reviewed July 30, 2010

This hotel is a good place to stay if you want a relaxed atmosphere, good, reasonably priced food and clean and comfortable accomodation. Our evening meal and breakfast was home cooked, locally sourced fresh produce, which made our stay feel like we were at home.

Good location for visiting the Lakes and North Lancashire. Ample car parking by the hotel. Very friendly reception and the service was excellent. Room overlooked the church which was good until the clock chimed, every hour and on each quarter!!! Not the best thing if you want a good nights sleep. The furniture in the room badly needs replacing but there are tea and coffee making facilities and the bathroom was spacious. Evening dinner was good but rather expensive and the cooked breakfast was excellent, selection of cereals was poor as was the fresh fruit. No lounge for residents.

after stopping over for 1 night on the way to scotland for a wedding,we were alittle hesitant from the view on the outside.but after arriving to a warm welcome and pleasant surroundings we soon settled down for our respite. the bar was old age and full of character and served a great pint of ale!we then settled down to a tasty3-course meal and finishing with a tipple in the bar before a sound nights sleep. All in all it was a wonderful stay over and we were a little disappointed to have to be leaving the quaint village of Beetham and the tranquail surroundings. We will be back again!!

What a great weekend, Superb hospitality, clean rooms and great breakfast. A warm welcome greeted us on our arrival and set us up for a truly memorable weekend break. We had dinner on one night of our weekend break and it lived up to our expectations.
All in all a really good short break.

I think it is really important for anyone staying in the Wheatsheaf at Beetham to be clear on what they are booking and where they are staying. The Sun - Thurs reduced rate has further limitations to it that are not described on the website and are not necessarily communicated by the staff. The sample menus, particularly for vegetarians, are not a good indication of what they have on offer, i.e. only one vegetarian meal available. These issues can make you question the money you are spending and the service you are going to receive and I would urge people to bear this in mind when considering this hotel.

We stopped off here for one night (in spite of previous reviews) en route to Patterdale. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our room - double on the first floor, large comfy bed, fair sized bathroom, flat screen TV, mineral water, tea/coffee making facilities and overlooking the church. Popped down to the bar for a couple of drinks then dinner. Dinner was excellent, well prepared to order with a very friendly service. No issues at all. Then a night cap in the bar followed by a good night's sleep. Breakfast next morning was of a high quality and cooked to order. All in all, an excellent stop, in a quality hotel with excellent food and service to match. A great start to a holiday in the Lake District.

We stopped off at the Wheatsheaf in Beetham on our way home from a weekend in the Lakes, where we had eaten like kings. We sat down in the restaurant where at least half a dozen flies descended on us and reamined with us throughout our meal. My husband ordered a roast dinner and I just had the soup of the day (Cream of Potato and Leek).
When the food arrived the soup was spicy tomato, so I politely stated that I hadn't ordered this. The waitress said 'We've run out of Potato and Leek, did nobody tell you?' I asked to change the soup for pate and a couple of minutes later a Potato and Leek soup arrived!! It was warm and that's all I can really say! It was gloopy and full of green leek leaves and onions. I also found a small root in it which looked like the top of a spring onion. Overall, not nice. The roast dinner on the other hand was very edible, until my husband found a long piece of paper in the middle of it, hidden under a yorkshire pudding. This obviously put him off eating the rest of the dinner.
When we mentioned this to the waitress she said 'It's just a bit of wrapping off the goat's cheese, sorry', and when we also politely complained about the flies we were told that there is nothing they could do as we were in the middle of the countryside after all.
All in all a dreadful meal and I will not be stopping off again on my way to or from the Lake District!
