Stopped here as we were driving around and we were delighted. Very friendly staff and well kept beer. We didn't eat as we had booked elsewhere but all the food going out looked very tempting. Will return soon, hopefully on a fine evening when we will be able to sit outside and enjoy the view,

We stopped off at the Ship Inn on the chance they would let our dog in. And they do. The pub is bright and airy with plenty of seating for both small or large parties, utilising window seats which are nice and cosy. The menu is good with both a nice range of daily specials and normal menu staples. We chose 1 standard menu item gammon and 1 special Cumberland sausage and mash as the steak pie had run out (it was tea time on bank holiday Monday) and we weren't disappointed. Both meals were plentiful and had nice selection of veg as accompaniment. They have a good range of soft drinks, wines and beers. The staff were very attentive and helpful. You can also sit outside either at the front or back of the pub or within the car park there are a group of tables that give you fabulous views of the estuary of the River Kent and across to the Lakes District hills. You can also (at low tide of course) walk onto the hard mud sands across the road. The nice bit is they do half portions of most main meals which is one of the reasons we will be visiting again soon so our older family members can join us and not be over faced as they are in so many places.

We were a party of 5 and went here for lunch, personally I found the pub to be cold but maybe this was because it had only just opened for lunch. We were a little disappointed that the steak pie and sea bass were not available but this was due to them having been busy over the weekend and not had time to prepare anymore for Monday lunchtime. To be fair there was still plenty of choice and we enjoyed our meals. There was no complaint about portion size as we could not eat a pudding after!

Great location on the banks of the River Kent estuary with fabulous views across to the Lake District. Lovely pub, pleasantly decorated - used to be quiet dark inside but now much brighter after a bit of a spruce up. Good menu of staple pub food, well cooked and presented but nothing too fancy - which suits the ambience perfectly. Good selection of well kept beers and very pleasant staff. Great place to stop off for lunch if you are looking for a stunning location but away from the hustle of the actual Lake District. Very much recommended now.
